Dream Dream

”Beware what you dream” — Morpheus

I see you staring in the door. Welcome. This is The Shoppe of Dreams — I’m Morpheus. I have many types of dreams, so no matter what you desire, you can find it here. Whether you seek a special fantasy, or just some everyday wonder, I do my honest best to have it available. One thing that my shop is well known for — everything here contains an element of truth, even the nightmares.

You seem very curious about this unusual dream I hold here. You can examine it, if you’d like. I designed it as a thing of vivid rarity — oddly dark, constructed of angst, but as strong as youth. This one belongs to Billie Eilish. Not to worry, I do have others

So please, if you are a dreamer, come in, look around. You just might find the exact dream you are looking for.

  1. Loving this take on the prompt. For some reason, I’m reminded of the wand shop in Harry Potter and when Harry goes in to find the perfect wand for him.
Really enjoyed this one! Would that there was a shop where we could try on dreams and see if they “fit” 🙂

    1. Thank you Lillian, this was fun to write. As with many poems, at least my poems, it ended up being very different, final draft compared to initial SOC draft — but very happy were it landed.

  2. Very creative piece. I like the Hogwart’s reference as well. Fantasy can take us just as far as Sci-Fi, and in some cases even further, beyond quantum physics and cosmic consciousness. It is lithe and light hearted, which is welcomed within the abysmal quagmire left over from Trump.

  3. You have this talent of matching music to your poems. Such a treat to visit your blog. Another priceless matchup
Thanks for dropping by my blog this evening

    Much love…

    1. I am glad you enjoy visiting Gillena. I look for music that supports the general theme of the poem by identifying it with one, then typing that word into google with the word music — then I search through and sample the options that show up. Doesn’t always work, but frequently it does.

  4. I love your interesting dream shop. Must have a little weed interspersed along with those dreams! :>)

I thought this line sounded like the evening news…

  5. I really like this. You describe Billie Eilish very well. And yes there is an element of truth in everything. Well done!!

  6. Sounds like a cool shop, can I put all the dreams on credit?! I like the bit about examining the dreams. They always say careful what you wish for, as some dreams do slide into nightmare. Enjoyed the music!

  7. ‘everything here contains an element of truth, even the nightmares.’ I think our dreams do take us to a place of inner truth, even though sometimes it is a dark place, this can also be illuminating!

  8. Thank you so much, Rob, for the gorgeous blast of Heart – we often listen to the Wilson girls. I loved your story from the viewpoint of Morpheus. I imagine your Shoppe of Dreams to look like one we have in Norwich; it’s called Head in the Clouds and has been around for an awfully long time, a proper head shop. I especially like the thought that everything ‘contains an element of truth, even the nightmares’.

    1. You are welcome Kim. Just a coupla of Emerald City (Seattle) gals — that kicked ass like monsters. Oneof my top 5 groups. Their stuff still holds up. Not certsin if Ann & Nancy’s hair still passes muster — but their “chops” sure as fuck do!

  9. Great pairing with the videos! I very much enjoyed Billy Eilish. The element of truth is a great touch, as if moving dreams from a state of mystification to enlightenment. So much to savor in this line…” I designed it as a thing of vivid rarity — oddly dark, constructed of angst, but as strong as youth”

    1. Thank you Mish. That is my poetic impression of Ms. Eilish — and I find her and her brother Finneas quite brilliant at times. I hope we get to see each of them continue to evolve, and their musical partnership.
