Enthralled

Art by:Fay Collins

Standing at water’s edge
gazing upstream
I marvel at the beauty
of this pristine stream

it ambles
rippling quietly
in crystal clarity
ever onward

gently
past these emerald climbs
that coddle it
keeping it safe

nudging it tirelessly
toward home

the timeless sea

I hear the lullaby
of this valley

a lilting song
of the peace
of the serenity
nestled soft
in its earthen embrace

captivated
I lift my head
listening

the breeze murmurs
whispering in the boughs
of the leafen’d sentinels
ever watching at its banks
patient in their vigil

just then
a zephyr wafts downstream
brushes my face
tosses my hair
and dances past me
round the bend

a hushed gasp
escapes my lips

like a prayer

I’m breathless
‘midst this beauty

my spirit
enthralled

    1. Nice isn’t it Ingrid. There is a bend much like that on the Clackamas river near our Oregon home, where I used to fly fish. This poem was inspired by the poem I wrote for that particular bend in the river. Here is the photo of that bend and the poem I wrote then, entitled “Like a Prayer”. Read it here.

    1. Thank you Sarah. It is where I take my genuine soul — to the mountains, to the old growth forests, to the glacier melt pristine streams and rivers. It is where I long to be, and from where I am barred by health in the past few years. By I will haunt all those places when my life energy transforms.
