The Poet’s Way

Damaged in our special ways
we like the path unclear

fond of stumbling in
fumbling through
to find the way that’s ours

we seek grace and form
from brilliant imbalance

seduced by the muse
we’re drawn to the mystery
and the wonder
it conceals

  1. The muse can lead us into those caves of mystery… sometimes maybe even so deep down it will be hard to find our way back

    1. Fumblin’ stumblin’ fool — that’s me. I am so uncertain, about so much, so often — I am conviced I know nothin’, and De, what I think I know, is likely wrong.

  2. Stumbling in & fumbling through, with or without a muse is really what writing’s all about, eh? I try not to be too muse-dependent. That way, even though I have to bear the shame for any bad work, I get all the glory for my masterpieces. Muse, Schmuse, I say.
    Fine work, RK. Thanks.

  3. The last stanza is the brilliant discovery Rob! It makes life worth the living when it is mystifyingly attractive to our expectations. Only those who are led by an active lifestyle will find easily such moments and not otherwise. Best wishes for the ensuing year, sir!

    1. Aren’t we all, to some degree or another David — poets are simply able to assemble, name, and reprise the quirks they possess — and engagingly relate the ones that are the common threads of humanity… making their creations deeply relevant.

  4. I thoroughly enjoyed this! The cadence, the crafting, and the message.
    “we seek grace and form
    from brilliant imbalance”
Those words nailed down life perfectly.
The winds, weather, tides, and reason to get up every day, all stem from an imbalance. Balance spawns the doldrums.

  5. This is one of the truest poems I have read . Wonderfully written. I echo what Lisa says about the Cohen interview too.

  6. So late to the reading…apologies. LOVE the title and image used and am most smitten with these words:
    “we seek grace and form
    from brilliant imbalance”
