Catrin Welz-Stein
embraced by purity of a swan
resplendent sorceress without fault
her spirit gentle as the dawn
descended from the loins of circe
she is a goddess of the wand
mistress of both love and mercy
she’ll take you to xanadu and beyond
fantastic is this spell she’s casting
magic of a splendorous kind
a world of wonder everlasting
in treasure troves of dreams entwined
in fantasy’s elaboration
through stars of splendor you’ll ascend
a journey through pure imagination
your blissful voyage will never end

Beautiful, Rob: I guess she came to the rescue of the fellow in your previous poems!
Like an angel of love and mercy she came, finally forcing a crack in his rock hard grief. The dmall crack got her in, and she cared enough yo save his spirit — and in so doing, save his life! Angels are few and far between, and they have been know to change their wings.
You nailed this image for me! I love everything about this write….and most especially the second stanza!
Yup….looks like you are as smitten with Catrin’s work as I am 🙂
Thank you Lillian… 🙂 Would love to own one of her pieces — this one: “Homeward Bound”

Lovely Rob. Have you read Madeline Miller’s book Circe? She also wrote The Song of Achillies, so if you have an interest in Greek mythology they may be right up your street.
Thank you Carol, and appreciate the book tips… 🙂
She sounds much more benign than Circe… I don’t want to become a pig
She is a descendant of cerci, but this lovely sorceress is compelled by love and mercy
what a wondrous tribute to this amazing art, genteal and magical as it should be … love this Rob!
Thank you Kate… 🙂
This was truly magical, Rob! So many wonderful thoughts. Fantasy and dreams I’m hooked.
I conjured up a sorceress who is both magical and merciful — but in control of her situation. I love Catrin’s art.
How magical and mystical you have drawn her. Love the response !
Thank you Grace… 🙂 Catrin’s artwork I find to be most inspiring.
Absolutely loved this, thank you. This work is enchanting, just like your Goddess.
I, too, felt the passage and eternity of deep time evoked by Catrin’s art works.
“a journey through pure imagination

For me the invocation of your Godess’ lineage from Circe reminds me, as Bjorn implies, that the Danaan ancients were mindful of the capricious nature of their Gods. The chequered fates of their descendants and of the mortals who couple with the Gods leaves me with a frisson of doubt about trusting this Goddess to be truly benign.
Thank you Max. I think my goddess will meet like with like, so perhaps rather than benign, she is appropriate — don’t cross her… 🙂
Rob, these are so lyrical as music springs to my ears as I read aloud. I would love to see your poem set to music.
Thank you Lisa. I have written lyrics over the years, I would be proud to see this put to music — but the keyboardist I used to write with the most has taken his act to the stars.
Wow! This reminded me of Coleridge as soon as you mentioned Xanadu and like Coleridge you explore the undercurrents of imagination sweeping the wanderer away. Beautifully vivid.
Thank you Dora. It certainly draws upon both the inspiration of Catrin’s art piece, and is informed by the essence of Coleridge, and Xanadu.
