Oh The Peace

This is a poetry form I created. It is called a VERTICAL ENTWINE, and is 3 poems in one. Consists of 10 lines. The 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th line should be made up of several words each (5 or more) and when read descending are a complete poem number one. The 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th should be lines of one or two words, when read descending together are brief second complete poem. All ten lines, when read together, are a 44-word Quadrille. It does not have to rhyme, and should be center justified. Perhaps a short name for the form could be ‘Quatwine’.

Oh the peace, wandering the ancient
old growth
my spirit is alive embracing the magnificent
forest
my heart settles and slows its beating
so quiet
my thoughts expand to see the timeless truth
deeply
in this transcendent moment I celebrate all of life
sacred

  1. Beautiful is the peace and serenity of the old forest. And a unique form too.

Thanks for being part of dVerse. Happy anniversary to us!

    1. Thank you Merril… 🙂 The restrictions are to give a visually balanced form to the poem on the page. The cleave form, while certainly interesting, always looked a bit busy and cluttered to my eye. I also feel the Vertical Entwine has a “pulse” of sorts go it, with the alternating long and short lines — like it’s alive and breathing. I also wanted to embrace our Quadrille as a basis for the poem form. I like the brevity, and the form drills down to considerable brevity in lines 2 through 10. I really like the ‘tiny poem’ snuggled inside the “Q” form. Maybe I will shorten the form name to “QUATWINE”? 🙂

  2. This is f’n good, Rob – I just adore it.

BTW – it’s not dissimilar from a form called the “waltmarie” – are you familiar with it?

    much love,
    David

    1. Thank you David… 🙂 I hadn’t heard of the waltmarie, but looks like I came close to reinventing an existing form. Oh well, I have the shape elements, and the 44-word Quadrille overlay to mine — so it isn’t exactly the same.
