rounding a bend
brushing through waist-high fern
I crest a knoll and stop
mesmerized
awash in the warm brushstrokes of evening
filtered through this woodland realm
as the waning sun paints the world golden
below me
a pristine ribbon of silver-blue water
flecked with sunlight
sparkles like a strand of gems
transfixed
I marvel at the beauty
at the power
of this mighty river
as it tumbles in timeless clarity
over boulder and falls
ever onward
its lyric voice
beckons me
I come
entranced
stand immersed in its energy
captivated by its duet with the wind
that plays the boughs of the towering pines
singing down the lofty climbs
to gently brush my face
toss my hair
and dance past me round a bend
in perfect harmony
serenaded in this evensong
sunset has melted into moonrise
the waters ripple sterling in soft applause
the moon sets aglow this splendid concert
so I listen
spellbound

Such lush descriptions! Love the saffron! And your photography is spectacular. Beautiful area!
Amazing photograph and your words are so beautiful. Fluency and fluidity seem to go together.
The combination of light and sound bring this piece to life.
This is absolutely sublime. You’ve painted a powerful, moving, and beautiful picture with words. Lovely pictures, too!
The idea of being fluent in the lyrics and energies of Nature’s song is a beautiful thought!
i love your fluency 🙂

Beautiful write…took me entirely someplace else…and what lovely photos…you’re lucky to live near such a place:)
I felt I was standing there, so descriptive were your words. A lovely piece accompanied by beautifu pictures.
You have made me homesick…there is no place in the world quite as beautiful. I feel so lucky to call a place like this home. The poetry sang a beautifully as the image. Thank you.

What a speechless moment! You capture it well.
It’s like you took a photograph with words. Lovely. Lovely.
Your word choice is absolutely lovely. Especially taken with last two stanzas:
serenaded in this evensong
sunset has melted into moonrise
the waters ripple sterling in soft applause
the moon sets aglow this splendid concert
so I listen
spellbound
Beautiful!

Rob- I can hear the river/wind duet as my mind pictures this vivid image… just beautiful!!
“Transfixed
I marvel at the beauty…”
Of these lines.
Ah … the Cascades! In my back yard, I never tire of looking, exploring, reveling in them.
nice one Rob…our creek flows to the Columbia R…past your place and on to Astoria and the Pacific
Mesmerized, transfixed, spellbound…lovely!
