I cannot look
at broken stair
where foot slipped
and ankle bent
as apple basket fell
no voice came
just a final gasp
those tender lips
will not know again
sweet fruit
nor breath
nor love
moonlight caresses
a lifeless form
blackness presses in

Yeah, bummer huh?
Wow, Rob.

My dark alterego…
That final gasp is so sad. That blackness pressing in, in the last line, sums up this tragic ending.
I was looking for a brief that that would express finality Grace…
O My Goodness!! I haven’t fallen down the stairs yet, I hold onto the handrails going up and down. Have you?
Oops, yes, I did, in Ireland, outside in a garden, the steps were concrete. Right away two younger folk came rushing to pick me up. I just wanted to lay there for a bit. The premise owners took me many miles to and ER, I had a broken kneecap and had blood all over me. After, a Taxi brought Mrs. Jim and me back and then I drove about 60 miles to Dublin.
..
..
I have not fallen seriously yet. Ouch Jim! That must have been painful. Sorry to hear that…

“moonlight caresses
a lifeless form”
Deep and beautiful, Rob.
Thank you Kitty…
Why do I like this poem so much? Maybe dark depressing reality is not so bad after all. Well done, Rob.
I think it stirs the feelings of sorrow , which reminds us of love and empathy. I believe darkness stimulates as much positive emotion as it does negative. Helps us feel human, and fortunate that it’s not us. Darkness makes the light seem even brighter.
A gasp of sadness, this.
Darkness helps the light appear brighter…
