that moment
that image
will never dim
emblazoned into my heart
the soft flickering pulse
of distant lightning
above the willows
of our quiet street
my eyes following
your graceful silhouette
backlit
moving away from me
into the falling rain
the taste of you
so sweet on my lips
if you are lucky
you will carry one night
with you
my gaze held fast
until there was nothing
just your blurring image
fading
into the chill downpour
the sweet memory
of that night’s
vital passion
warmed me
as did the promise
there would be others
but no warning
