American Sentences were conceived by Allen Ginsberg (above) in 1984.

  • To just try to fly will not work, unless you are expecting to soar.

  • Allen was howl’n, pal’n with Corso, but still long’n for Peter.

  • The one sure thing I’ve learned is, every day of life is a lesson.

    1. LOVE that pic of AG. All he needs is his trusty harmonium. You mentioned another early favorite of mine, Corso. He wrote a poem about hating old poet men–because they’d lost their fire. I loved that poem and have it on my shelf in a volume I think is called “Gasoline.” I’d have to look.

      1. One of my fave pics of Allen, CORSo WAS A TRIP, being, I believe, the youngest, or one of the youngest of that beat group. He was feisty. He also said in his mid 30’s, “I feel I want to be wise with white hair in a tall library in a deep chair by a fireplace.” He eventually became an old poet man… 🙂

      1. Thank you Toni, and yes you have… 🙂 The “tongue” picture is representative of Edgrrr, his full “Grrrness” can be seen twice in the left sidebar, once in recline, once with the other love of my life, my grandson Alex. 🙂

    2. They are all witty – but the last one resonates with me today – so much hate “talk” but not many will do anything about it – and most just “copy and paste” what they hear from their “sources”. On a happier note – boys and puppies (dogs); my favorite combination. (well, maybe girls and horses, but too close to call 🙂

      1. Pleased these resonated with you Margaret! I pit that particular one last for a reason — I wanted it to linger and resonate! My wife was a girl and her horse story. She had two horses and rode english, and she jumped. I onow very little about horses, but I know about little boys and doggies. My grandson and my shih tzu are my two shining lights. 🙂

      1. Thank you Rall, I appreciate your kind words. Yes, there is a difference between trying to fly snd expecting to soar. Like Yoda says, “Don’t try, do!” It is wonderful to see your name on my site again. It has been since back in the days of Dana Guthrie’s Poetry Thursday. I started posting work on PT in 2006. I remember you and I were both in the RWP Anthology. I have tried several times in recent months to leave a comment on your blog after I saw your name on one of the prompt sites. Unfortunately your Blogger site, like most Blogger sites I have encountered lately, won’t post my comments – they just disappear. The IGWRT Blogger site accepts my comments, and a few others? The Sunday Muse site and the Poets United site both accept my links to my work, but they disappear my comments. Anyway, nice to have you visit Rall, thank you.

    3. Love them all Rob, but the 4th is my favorite too, but the last one made me laugh! Love it! That photo of him is wonderful! Always love to see you here at the Muse Rob!

      1. Thank you Carrie. I enjoy The Sunday Muse, but I have tried everything I know to leave a comment on TSM – but its Blogger site will not display them. They disappear the moment I try to leave them. This phenomena occurs on a large percentage of Blogger platformed sites — though not on every Blogger site. For example, I have no problem with the IGWRT Blogger site. It is frustrating because it makes it impossible for me to comment on the work of many poets who on Blogger. I worry those poets may think me aloof and unsupportive of their poetry, when that isn’t the case. I have a Google, Blogger, and WordPress account – yet the situation continues with a large majority of Blogger sites. I self-publish my Image & Verse site on a private server for over 15 years. I use a very old WordPress theme for I&V, but it is not hosted on a WordPress or Blogger server. Maybe because I am self-hosting and self-publishing Image & Verse on a private server, it confuses some generations of Blogger sites? I don’t know what to do, but it is frustrating. I never have a problem with a WordPress site — ever. Oh well…
