Blue Torii

A Torii gate is a Japanese symbol of transition from the material world to the sacred.

Blue torii passage
garden path winds to sunset
this day falls to calm
clouds are golden overhead
serenity is sacred

lacquer on gate beams
span faith’s possibility
fate’s demarkation
welcomes the blessed seekers
asking questions of the heart

small steps are not small
when they begin this journey
seeking is living
discovery is the gift
knowledge is the shining light

crossing here to peace
from chaos to the divine
the veil has opened
truth lies beyond blue torii
transcend to enlightenment

  1. Gorgeous image. Have seen those gates before but had no idea the symbolism. Do you have any Japanese gardens out your way? Knowing your special climate out there you probably do. Not a fan of the musical selections but cool videos!

    1. Thank you Lisa. Numerous Japanese gardens in Seattle, Portland, and elsewhere throughout the Pacific Northwest — owing to the Pacific Rim influence. My favorite is in Portland. It is considered by many knowledgeable experts as the best Japanese garden outside of Japan. It’s spectacular! 🙂

Below here is a longer video. It is a captivating, quiet, high resolution walk through the Portland Japanese garden.

      1. The first video has me adding the Portland gardens to my bucket list. They’ve got a nice one in Chicago, and we have a younger beautiful one at Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, but these take them to a new level.

Missed you this morning at the LIVE read. Maybe next month?

        1. Portland’s gardens are wonderful!
7:00 AM is just way too early for me. When whomever it was that made that change, it pretty much closed the door permanently for me.

  2. I must get myself to Portland soon to visit the Japanese garden you mentioned. I also learned a new word torii. Hope summer is treating you well, I am loving summer away from writing.

  3. “small steps are not small
    when they begin this journey
    seeking is living
    discovery is the gift
    knowledge is the shining light”

So much beauty and wisdom in this, Rob.
Do not know the word, torii, but will look it up.
