I sigh a sigh of longing
I feel empty sad and very old
I seek to fill my barren soul
~across the bridge of truth~
I seek not a kingly right
nor scepter gold to rule a realm
worldly wealth I do not need
love’s enlightenment I seek

Bang on, brother, a Puente extraordinaire. Poet as ,romantic philosopher. I, of course, had to go to great lengths to achieve what you managed in two, brilliant stanzas.
Thank you Glenn, I have felt very mortal and deeply introspective in recent weeks, questioning everything. Tearing back the shielding physical, trying to find the metaphysical core of it all.
~across the bridge of truth~ is such a good bridging line. The poem’s narrator sounds so forlorn. I hope he finds “love’s enlightenment.”
Thank you Merril. Not sure he feels so much forlorn as deeply cutious sbout what’s real in life. I yoo hope he finds his answer
This is beautifully, beautifully done, Rob! I so love your phrasing in this Puente 🙂 crisp and bold especially; “I seek not a kingly right nor scepter gold to rule a realm.”
Thank you Sanaa! 🙂 Was feeling my meta today.
This is so beautifully penned.
Thank you Lucy… 🙂
The first rhyme in the first stanza got me.. right to the heart of the matter. Whatever you’re working through gave birth to a touching poem That bridge line really rests well at center stage. Very nicely done Rob. I really like this.
Pat
Thank you Pat… 🙂
‘the bridge of truth’ …. I seek that as well. A lovely poem, Rob.
Thsnk you Helen… 🙂
I like the movement of your poem from emptiness to love’s enlightenment!
Thank you Dwight!
Seeking love’s enlightenment sounds like a noble quest! And who would not cross the bridge of truth?
Yes Ingrid, for most, it is a journey to be embraced
???? Rob ????
Sorry my website delivered you question marks David, instead of whatever emoji you sought. My theme is so old it doesn’t recognize emojis… ????
I know that feeling, Rob, which you have summed up so well.
Thank you Kim.
Beautifully penned from the heart Rob, I hope you’ll find the enlightenment you seek.
I have several times Xenia, but it’s elusive.
I think that if we cross the bridge of truth before finding love’s enlightenment, that love is going to be true love.
I agree Bjorn, definitely — perhaps that begs for making the certificate of marriage require one pass a cognitive logic test… perhaps not?
Beautifully written – ‘love’s entitlement I seek.’
Thank you Marion…!
That’s a hard bridge to cross.
That bridge czn be hard to find in solid condition at times Kerfe. Our National span was very badly damaged during the four years leading up to January 20th of this year. It appears, from what I observed yesterday, that serious projects of repair are underway. For that I give thanks. I’m sure our personal spans have taken some hits, from time to time, during our lives. It is not difficult at times of extreme stress, to lie to ourselves unfortunately. Some more than others. The older one gets, some of us find more self-inflicted damage than we care to admit, or are proud of. But as long as we haven’t torn our personal bridge of truth down completely, and are willing to make the effort, and undertake any necessary structural improvements — one can still get to the other side. I believe it is where we all desire to be — at least I hope so… 🙂
John Lennon had it right but once acknowledged sometimes very elusive like “the butterfly” in the son.
Yes, all we need is love. And in the dnd, the love you take, is equal to the love you make — and that reaches quite well beyond just sexual love making… to include love of ourselves, our neighbors, all the peoples and creatures of the earth, and the earth itself. And it can certainly bd elusive at times.
son = song
Or in the “sun” Lisa. It gets damned hot in our lives at moments, and very cold at times. Weathering the storms, crossing that bridge, is part of the challenge — even if we have taken care to see that our personal bridge has remained relatively intact.
To which all should aspire.
Yes!
Such a good example of the form, and the content so stimulating – the elusive search for truth, and in love, so well expressed as many experience.
Thank you Paul, very much… 🙂
