Original DDE™ surrealistic art: “Starman” by: rob kistner © 5/30/24
Did I ever tell you ‘bout Buzz
his life sizzled at the speed of light
ever blazing through the midday sky
and rocketing through the moonlit night
was a bright shining wonder
a glistening miracle to behold
a spirit like flash bang lightning
it seemed he would never grow old
streaking through the universe
whooshing like a meteor — alone
roaring up high on wings of dreams
like a blinding shooting star he shone
the sad news came last weekend
our dear Buzz was nowhere in sight
last seen wizzing ‘round a midnight star
sparkling — spiraling skyward into the night
we who truly knew brother Buzz
were sure it was what we’d feared
he had finally outdistanced time itself
and wham bam — mystically disappeared

After seeing Starman, Buzz became Bowie <3
It was a miracle transformation Lise… 🙂
I hope Brother Buzz is happily buzzing away in the galaxy 🙂
Grace — 🙂
I enjoyed the sounds in your poem, Rob, especially the sibilance in ‘his life sizzled at the speed of light’, the onomatopoeia in ‘a spirit like flash bang lightning’, and the sounds in the lines:
‘whooshing like a meteor — alone
roaring up high on wings of dreams
like a blinding shooting star he shone’.
Thank you very much Kim. This was fun to write… 🙂
A great poem, Rob. Initially took me to Toy Story and Buz Lightyear… Then I realized it is more like a metaphor for your life! Well done.
Thank you Dwight. Perhaps it’s more autobiographical than I realized… 😉
Maybe Buzz just found another galaxy to call his home where he met the three-breasted babe with tantalizing tentacles to tickle him wild.
I think I dated her once in college Björn… 😉
I enjoyed this dazzling flash of a poem!
Thank you Rosemary… 🙂
It seems there’s a bit of Buzz in all of us. You captured eloquently the cosmic magic of our flashy but brief existence.
Thank you Penelope — you are probably correct… 😉
This is gorgeously encapsulated, Rob! I so enjoyed the sounds in this poem 😀
Thank you Sanaa…:)
Hi Rob, this is such a great poem. I will show it to my son – he’ll love it too. Super picture ????????
Thank you Robbie… …really hope your son gets a smile out of it! 😉
“he had finally outdistanced time itself
and wham bam — mystically disappeared….”
Not a bad way to go at all.
I’d take it as my exit Debi… 🙂
A very engaging write; thank you.
You’re welcome J… 🙂
This gave me a buzz and how cool to outdistance time Very entertaining!
Thank you Marja… 🙂
David Bowie! Will forever miss his musical genius, his presence here on Earth. Love the art, love the poem. Hope my comment finds you and yours well.
Ziggy now mingles with the Stardust. All is well Helen, thank you for asking… 🙂
Great sounds in this poem, Rob. Looks like a very young picture of David Bowie.
Thank you Sara… 🙂 Indeed, it’s the Thin White Duke in his prime… 😉
Yes there was a certain Buzz at that time – this caught it perfectly!
Thank you Alan… 🙂
Interesting link back to mythological references. Lots of people have thought that brilliant human spirits became stars or constellations in the sky…
Who knows Priscilla, that may be true… 🙂
