Original DDE™ surrealistic art: “By My Hand” by: rob kistner © 6/3/24
Into darkness I descend
as the hand of grief extends
deliverance called me to this door
she was indeed a faithful wife
in a moment’s mercy I took her life
her final stare I must endure
I pray to God that she may lie
forever with unopened eye
to her — my truest love I swore
may darkness hide my tears
I am haunted — filled with fears
my soul is broken evermore
her innocent voice cries my name
I’ve finally gone insane
it’s the end for me I’m sure
is this really what it seems
or has this been just a dream
but I feel my sorrow soar
I pray I’ve been asleep
in a dream-state dark and deep
please god — let my eyes soon open
let this nightmare spell be broken
and a new sun rise once more
if not — your mercy I implore

Talk about mixed feelings! It takes messiness to a whole new level.
Welcome Lisa, to the corridors of the dark side of my mind. 😉
You’ve really channeled Poe here, I think. The rhyme scheme and the lingering question of what happened and how did we end up here? You wrote something great!
Thank you Melissa. I just relaxed and let E.A. take the wheel. It was much darker, but I shifted it from menacing murder to mercurial mercy — still keeping it deliciously dark. 😉
A stunning poem, Rob, in which you channelled your inner Poe; however today is Prosery, when we write prose, and there is a word limit of 144 words – yours is 205. Here’s a further challenge to conjure this poem into a stunning piece of Prosery!
Oh shit Kim, it went right out my head. I am going to leave this version intact on my site, but I will edit it dosn to 144, and that is the one I will post. Damn, the mind is a terrible thing to lose… 🙂
It is exactly 144 now Kim. Thank you fir calling that oversight to my attention… 🙂
Hoping this has been a nightmare and you awaken to relief.
Thank you Debi… 🙂 I screwed up the entire Prosery concept, so I hope I wake up period! 😐
A great job channeling Poe, but I think you forgot it was supposed to be prose? 🙂
I blew this entire prompt Merril… 🙁 Kim pointed out I missed the 144 words. I fixed that, then this! I have been dealing with memory and cognitive issues, and I am so damned sorry… 😐
I got lost chasing E.A. 🙁
A confused murderer… so sad.
He was certainly delusional… 😐
Intense. Dark. Totally absorbing.
Thank you Misky… 🙂
