melancholy’s grey
the black of loss
fear’s dark ebony
the violet of regret
the purples of pain and anger
sorrowful blues
peaceful greens
golden joy
laughter’s bright amber
love’s ruby red
the scarlet of passion
the white of knowledge
painted by the brush of time
these are the colors
of my life
blended in the palette
that defines my essence
by these
you know me

May your life be filled with many more peaceful greens than regret-filled violets or purples of pain.
(It would be interesting to know how a synesthete would regard the colors as you’ve applied them here.)
I hadn’t thought of it Maureen, but I would be curious… 🙂
Incredible imagery, like the verbalization
of a Jackson Pollock. They say that in
Bardo, during our life between lives, we
wear undulating individual colors that
reflect who we are, and who we have
been, and who we might become.
By the by, was that the “bush” of time
or “brush” of time?
Damned spell-check — thanks for catching that Glenn. 🙂 I proofread it several times and never ‘saw’ it, probably because I lean too heavily on the spell-check crutch… I hadn’t thought about Bardo in quite some time…
I love the idea of describing a full life in colors! Great!
Excellent Magpie.
Your painter’s pallette is rich, full of insight and speaks volumes.
Excellent stuff!

You are a lovely palette, Rob.
Tess, your kind words much appreciated… 🙂
Our lives would be incomplete without a full and poignant pallet. How adeptly you’ve captured it, Rob.
I’m grateful to Glynn for featuring you, so that I didn’t miss this.
