with the sane asleep
I’m steeped in consternation
no inspiration
my thoughts vague
I’m filled with doubt
caught in merciless hesitation
words tossed about
the unyielding page
fickle muse please
a spark
to light this dark
that grips me like a cage
to be so immersed in thought – love how you use the word steeped here to show absolute depth.
Frustrating when the words won’t come, or when they are not the right or best words. I am usually not lost for words, but it isn’t fun when it happens.
i concur! at times i need to take a long walk to find them
I hear ya’ Gina. I often distract myself by turning my attention to my art, and working on one of my Serenity Totems…
Writer’s block captured well. If it is going to imprison you, why not drag it into the cell with you. LOL.
Nice
Every now and then Sabio, I feel the urge to have a smack down with my stubborn muse… but being a peaceful man, I don’t do it. 🙂
Steeped in anxiety, writers block, and totally immersed in your thoughts. The last stanza says it all.
Sometimes pleading works Toni… 🙂
I like the petition to the fickle muse to light the spark.
Don’t feel the need too often, but it isn’t beneath me… 🙂
You chose a fitting title for this quadrille, Rob. I often feel that everyone is asleep, sound in their sanity, with me the only mad one awake – now I know that I’m not alone! Although it is usually my muse, unbidden words and phrases, that wake me up.
My problem Kim, is when I am caught up in writing, I can’t put it down until what I am writing strikes a harmonic chord within me, oftan that takes me into the wee hours of the morning.
Oh, a writer’s common plea! I am becoming well acquainted. Making one muse seems to be a muse’s job.
My muse seems to enjoy taunting me at times Mary. Will take me right up to needing that perfect final word or phrease – and then withholding… grrrrr!
Oh I am well aware of the darkness, doubt and dilemma you describe here, Rob! This poem is pure perfection 🙂
Thank you Sanaa, you are most gracious! 😉
I think we win the battle with the muse when we write about it. Bravo!
Just gotta look it straight in the eye sometimes Mish…!
Oh… I think you won the wrestle with the muse. well done
Thank you Bjorn. I usually win the battle of stubborn… 🙂
This is great! We have all been there, right? I feel better reading it rather than feeling it ???? Thanks Rob ????
Thanks Christine! Frustrating situation for sure… 🙂
So well stated, I’ve been there.
Pat
Thank you Pat! 🙂
gripped like a cage is brilliant simile
Thank you Nora, I appreciate your sentiment!
