Crystal Clarity

Standing at water’s edge
gazing upstream
I marvel at the beauty
of this pristine stream

it rambles
in rippling white water
in crystal clarity
ever onward

gently
past these emerald climbs
that coddle it
keeping it safe

nudging it tirelessly
toward home

the timeless sea

I hear the lullaby
of this valley

a lilting song
of the peace
of the serenity
nestled soft
in its earthen embrace

captivated
I lift my head
listening

the breeze murmurs
whispering in the boughs
of the patient sentinels
ever watching at its banks
persistent in their vigil

just then
a zephyr wafts downstream
brushes my face
tosses my hair
and dances past me
round the bend

a hushed gasp
escapes my lips

like a prayer

I’m breathless
‘midst this beauty

my spirit
enthralled

    1. Thank you Björn. It cuts so deeply into my spirit that I can no longer immerse myself physically deep into the heart of nature’s wilderness — but I can still go there in my mind, and I do so regularly.

    1. Thank you Lisa… 🙂 …one of my favorite L&M songs as well. Also dig Dylan’s “Watching Th River Flow”. This Leon Russell version that I have posted here is always blowing my mind. Great blues feel.

  1. I love this especially; “I hear the lullaby of this valley/a lilting song of the peace/of the serenity/nestled soft/in its earthen embrace.” You have such a way with words, Rob! 😀

    1. Thank you Sanaa… 🙂 …been writing lyrics first, and then poems since I was 16. I have such a cache created, I can just dive back into the decades and revise for new compositions. Makes writer’s block easier to combat… 🙂

  2. Watch the River Flow!!!! It’s one of Dylan’s songs I’d never heard. Sitting here grooving to the jazz, I need more much more of his jazz. Great poem, by the way … now back to the music!
