~
as comes the fire of day’s first light
carried confidently by the lantern bearer
to chase ashened dreams and welcome morn
morn’s a feeling
a wonderful healing
the sunlight revealing
all darkness was stealing
from our sight
from our heart
in this night
daybreak is magic

oooooooh, love the idea of dreams used up to ash. Great images & found the direction of the light (toward morning rather than night) interesting.
I just read in the photo, that we were seeing the moon setting in the background, and the sky was just beginning to get light, as the sun hadn’t yet broken the horizon — so light was still needed to begin morning preparations. Gave me the feeling of prepping for breakfast at a camp sight. Slightly groggy, but happy to be awake, to be alive. And to me the sky felt the wrong color to be a sunset.
It is magic indeed and so is every line of this gorgeous poem Rob! I love it!
Thank you Carrie, I appreciate your kind words… 🙂
Awesome poetry, Rob …. this line is ‘mine all mine’ … carried confidently by the lantern bearer.
Thank you Helen! I bequeath that line to you in perpetuity… 😉
Daybreak is magic, and so are your words, Rob! I love the final rhyming.
Thank you Bev, you are gracious as ever… 🙂 …I got caugh in a rhyme vortex… 😉
“all darkness was stealing
from our sight
from our heart
in this night” — kudos back to you for this beacon of light!
Gotta keep it lit!
Indeed
Stay safe. Happy Sunday
Much????love
Thank you Gillena…:)
I have always said morning is one of the best ideas nature or God ever had – a fresh start, brand new every morning. Loved this, Rob.
Thank you Sherry. I wake up everyday, reaching for that new possibility — even though I am greeted by physical pain every day. I can deal with the physical pain, it’s the pain of the increasing greed, stupidity, and intolerance that is permeating this world, that is what I find utterly debilitating at times. When that gets to be too much, I retreat to my studio to dream and create. But the early AM, when the world is quiet, and the fools are not yet afoot, no matter from which side I am observing it — this is the time I can find to dream! It is my balm. I love it!
Oh, I love this poem of light directing out of the darkness. I so needed it to day!
Makes me happy to know this worked for you Susie. Go forth and be lit… 😉
I adore the early morning–always have. (At least, when it hasn’t meant heading off to work, and even then sometimes). I love the feeling that the whole day is spread out unspoiled ahead, and I also love the cool freshness of it. Yes.
I love both side of morning Shay. The early AM that finds me in a highly creative state, when I have yet to go tp bed — when I feel great freedom. But also. Like you, the pre-dawn into which I awake at times, I feel great possibility. I am not a big fan of the world when the hustle and bustle awakens. I think its because I find people too often break my heart. Oh well, perhaps I am just eccentric?
Written in what I consider your signature style. Beautifully written. I do love the early morning when the sun kisses earth with renewed light. This week I’ve come to appreciate the light!
Thank you True! 🙂 I am holding on to the hope that a dawn will break soon that brings light and warmth, to hearts and spirit of the human race.
And when morning comes the lantern carrier will have his/her rest. A nice light with a nice carrier will do the dark down. Driving between Bavaria and Frankfurt on the Romantic Road, we spent a night plus at Rothenburg. One of our activities was to follow the lamp lighter as he took us on a walking tour and showed us the town after dark.
..
That sounds like a great nights walk Jim, during a great trip… 🙂
A warm, evocative and life-affirming poem. Darkness and light war in this world like never before it seems, but each day begins with the quiet promise of dawn dispelling night’s shadows. Thanks for reminding us.
