and so I stumble on
bent by the weight of guilt
drenched in regret
I stumble anguished
into this toxic nightfall
captive on this road to extinction
of my lethal human arrogance
prisoner of my duplicitous apathy
seeking forgiveness

Wow Rob- such powerful words here.Thank you for joining in, and I am so glad you sight is better.
Thank you Linda! They still need to continue maintenance of my retina — and it may prove ongoing, to battle my diabetic retinopathy.
too late once the damage is done and we are all guilty …
Yes we are Kate.
Why does being a human have to be so complicated. I hope I’m born as another species next time around. Glad the injection helped your vision, Rob.
I think I might want to come back as a Shih Tzu Lisa — I’d be beautiful, and hopefully someone would take care of me… 🙂 The injections may become a regular regimen, given it is diabetic retinopathy causing the problem.
I like the seeking for forgiveness.
The seeking of forgiveness is a result of integrity Frank, something we all need to embrace.
Oooo, I like that “toxic nightfall” very much.
Thank you De.
I like the realization in the end and asking for forgiveness. We are all at fault, even by not doing anything about it.
Yes we are Grace, and we all need to soul search about it. It is the type of responsibility we can too easily assign to someone else — but it rests on all our shoulders.
Glad your vision is better. I had a few months where my retina was torn. I had the teenager from next door come and make my posts for me for dVerse
Thank you Toni. Sorry to hear you are struggling eith eye stuff.
I can feel the pain in this one. Yes we all seem to be headed for earthly extinction. Hopefully our spirits will move beyond.
I just wish everyone would pitch in to slow the extinction of our species.
I feel the weight in your words. Hopefully the search for forgiveness will wake our senses.
I hope so Astrid, I hope so.
I’m afraid we’re all prisoners of duplicitous apathy, Rob, it’s the fate of humankind. I love the phrases ‘toxic nightfall’ and ‘road to extinction’.
Yes Kim, but it need not be our own apathy. So many turning a constant blind eye is why the world is so chaotic.
Ah, a journey of forgiveness, a turning/repentance, which, as you tell it, is so compelling.
Thank you Paul.
Imagine all the streets we had to travel— all the wrong turns before the road to extinction
Hope to hell, for the sake of the human animal, w can find a way to turn back.
I fear that is the road we will all be traveling eventually. Vivid imagery.
Thank you Kerfe. I hope we as a species would take some responsibility and slow the trip.
I think only a few will remember to regret before we realize that the end has come.
Sadly you are probably right Björn.
Prophetic and piercing! And I love how your words resonate with your collage!
Thank you Frank.
Such strong words, from beginning to end. A tough path of a poem.
It’s a strong problem we face D.
