    Homeward Journey

    ~

    here by the boulevard
    arriving last night as rain
we puddle on this empty lot
    nestled in these treaded ruts
    resting before our homeward journey
    when we’ll rejoin earth’s waters

    evaporating skyward
    penetrating the earth
    we are tenacious, persistent
    always seeking our natural level
    breaking beyond futile bounds
returning to our azure mother – the sea

    1. This is an excellent analogy, beautifully described. I spend a good deal of time in my youth gazing at that Escher painting, marvelling at the perspective. Great choice!

    2. I have always felt the pull of the sea. It is where I want my ashes scattered. Bonus points for using an Escher!

      1. Life supposedly emerged from the sea, so ashes to the sea seems appropriate Sara. I am drawn to any and all natural forms of water – rivers, lakes, oceans all pull me like a magnet. When I used to be able to hike, it was almost always adjacent water, or water would be my destination. The photo I have with my “Hoping To Fly” dVerse Open Link post, of Indian Beach, shows the big rocks in the foreground, upon which I would climb and sit for hours, to write or meditate. Health no longer permits me to do so, but I LOVED those days on my rocks! 🙂
