Ghost of Love

Ghost of Love

•

(In loving memory of my son, Aaron Robert Kistner)

in the tears of this turbulent night
you come
as a breeze
stirring through my open window

a plaintive zephyr
yet sweet

you come
as a faint sound in the darkness

an easy laugh
rich voice

a song

you come
as a comforting thought

kindness
strength

a gentle way

you come
as a remembered presence

warm smile
clear eyes

peaceful eyes
full of wonder

the beauty of youth

you come
as a moment recalled

that precious last time
we stood embracing

this night
you come as a ghost of love
a specter of my longing heart

  2. rob – this piece evokes the essence of my grief – much of what you’ve shared i feel so strongly at times for a lost love — beautifully shared with a perfect musical accompaniment – thank you – danni

What a fantastic opening! And the rest of the poem is not a disappointment, either.

    Beautiful and sad!

  4. i just love it when you write about your son… humans all deal with loss differently,, and i have never experienced the loss of a child,, but my heart can feel the bewilderment,, the longing the pain when i am gifted with your words…

  5. Brenda –

The phone call, informing me of the tragic death of my son Aaron at age 18, remains the single most devastating moment of my life. The initial shock was unbearable, and lead to a nervous breakdown. The intensity of the trauma endured for several years.

The pain is now tempered by sweet memories, but the loss is forever with me…

  6. U.F. –

Thank you for your kind words… I always try to write from my heart, so I’m pleased that I occasionally touch someone…

  7. danni –

You are welcome — and I hope you find comfort, from time to time, in memories of your lost love…

  8. Linda –

Thank you for your moving words.

The opening came to me almost immediately upon reading the SS prompt — and the opening wrote the rest of the poem quite naturally, in a single sitting…
