…to loved ones missed, now sadly departed…
Gone
•
after the clutter of leaving
after the hurry of goodbye
after the hurry of goodbye
after sweet anticipation faded away
after no more embraces
after the laughter was memory
after the laughter was memory
after the sadness collected day upon day
after the spaces fell empty
after the familiar grew distant
after the familiar grew distant
after our time together had become the past
after the taste of regret
after the loneliness mounted
after the loneliness mounted
after sands in the glass spilled away much too fast
I did not think it would be this quiet
I did not think it would seem so far
no I did not know it could be so quiet
nor did I know how this silence would scar
I did not think it would seem so far
no I did not know it could be so quiet
nor did I know how this silence would scar

As I read this, I was hearing it as if set to music. This would make a lovely videopoem.
We must remember that it always
grows quiet before great events,
like the dawn, a storm, or an
important transition. This is a
very contemplative piece, and
the sentiment touches us gently.
The repetition works well.
The permanence of losing someone (or the impermanence of our time and space here) shakes our foundation in the most profound way. You’ve captured its universality so well.
Ah, so poignant and fitting for this week…
Heartfelt, poignant, beautiful.
that silence could scar…yes it can…another that is just taut with emotion rob…you are making me a bit sad today…
“silence would scar” … Indeed, it can.
Hi Rob, this is very good and I can totally relate. Sometimes it’s the silence before they’re gone that can scar you also.
This moved me .. I lost two friends in the past month. One too young, the other who lived an amazing life.
moving and sad
Poignant, elegant truth.
Thank you Larry… this poem came from deep inside…
