Original DDE™ surreal art: “Gone” by: rob kistner © 1/14/25
After your leaving footsteps long were silent
after the open front door caught no goodbye
after your front porch shadow faded away
after all our hope just imploded
after all our joy became a memory
after penetrating sadness collected day upon day
after the promises echoed hollow
after the dreams blurred to empty grey
after our days of passion had become the past
after the taste of regret grew ever bitter
after the loneliness mercilessly mounted
after sands in the glass spilled away to the last
what was once love’s rich blaze
had burned through the fodder
sadly all that remains is ash and char
our vision was most beautiful
our intention honest and real
its brightness so intense it burned out like a star
I did not know your leaving would set my soul ajar
I did not know your gone would be so final and far
I did not know love could become a haunting quiet
I did not know how deeply this silence would scar
Unknown artist — maybe Edward Hopper

Holy crap! This is some beautiful verse, Bro. Thanks
Thank you Ron, always appreciate your kind encouragement my friend… 🙂
Beautifully written, Rob. Love Willie’s song.
Thank you Dwight! 🙂 For anyone who doesn’t know what a brilliant guitarist Willie is, this is a great song to listen to. His finger picking is just superb, and his choice of melody lines is as fine as you will hear in any genre of music!
A haunting love poem, Rob, steeped in raw emotion and time transporting imagery, especially that opening stanza which sets the scene so wonderfully. That Hopper-ish painting is a perfect complement. I’m glad you used it but truly, this poem does its painting with all the colors of the heart all on its own.
Thank you so much Dora. I appreciate your always present kindness… 🙂
I use Chat GPT 4.0 to track down artists when I love the work and don’t know the artist. Just paste the art directly in and ask — WHO?
Thanks for the tip, Rob. ????
😉
So emotional, Rob! And not just the poem.
Thank you Kim… 🙂
Oh this is piercingly beautiful, Rob!
Thank you Sanaa… 🙂
Rob ~ incredibly sad. Beautifully crafted.
Thank you Helen… 🙂
So very moving, Rob. I like the imagery in “what was once love’s rich blaze/ had burned through the fodder/ sadly all that remains is ash and char” and your subtle use of repetition really brings out the intense, inescapable feeling of loss.
Thank you Mish. 🙂 I have used that repetition tool before — it is like tye language of shock and denial.
I love how you captured the mood of the picture (it was my choice as well)… a separation like this is like opening a wound.
That likely will never heal… 🙁
Gosh – this strikes right at the heart.
our vision was most beautiful
our intention honest and real
its brightness so intense it burned out like a star
A supernova of love True… 😉
Oh, this is devastatingly beautiful!
Thank you Kate. I appreciate your kind words… 🙂
HI Rob, this is a beautiful poem, very poignant.
Thank you Robbie… 🙂
Poets are witness to a magnitude — awesome and awful work when it’s happening in their own heart. Amen.
Amen!
This a a haunting, and beautiful poem, Rob.
Thank you Sara, pleased this stirred you my friend… 🙂
