Artist is Jacquline Hurlbert
in my hat of red
feeling blue
oh how I wish
ill-tempered weather
would ensue
to drive the joyful
all around
to indoor spaces
so I’d be spared
the pain
of smiling faces
and the bitter
bitter memory
of losing you
Hi! I’m Edgrrr, rob’s shih tzu.
Haha! You wrote about my piece- I love it Rob! I fell in love with her the moment I saw her.
That is a fabulous piece Linda, exquisite! I am also much more drawn to 3D art over 2D, especially surreal sculpture.
The thought of how weather can be too joyful for a mourning person… funerals should be banned in summer.
Sometimes joy can piss one off Björn.
I like the thought of being spared the pain of smiling faces.
There are definitely two sides to a smile Frank.
Rob your poem brought instant tears. A perfect spin on the artwork.
Thank you Lisa, I am pleased this touchec you.
You are welcome.
This starts off almost… (not trivial, that’s the wrong word, but… lighthearted?)
That last stanza couple of stanzas flip the tone of the poem completely. It’s masterfully done. I could feel the knot it my throat as I finished.
Thank you Carol, very much. Flip poems are a favorite style I write.
I thought that, too–I think it’s the rhyme and rhythm, but then the end packs a punch.
Glad Merrill, that struck you and Carol. I was going for the impact of a direct dive into darkness.
A great image, feeling blue while wearing a red hat.
It resonated for me when it popped into my head Crystal.
Oh, that’s a perfect poem for that whimsical piece of art, with a touch of tragedy.
I am pleased you liked it Kathy…
“so I’d be spared
the pain
of smiling faces”
only made me smile, until I got to the next verse, hoping your joy returns
much love…
Thank you Gillena, but this was fiction, based on vivid memories from the past.
I don’t know which is worse a funeral on a sunny day or a rainy day. They both make my soul weep.
When I saw this piece it reminded me of a woodpecker and I almost wrote about it. The other day at work a baby woodpecker landed outside my cubicle window just staring at me. It was very surreal.
Trust me True, they both suck! Could dig seeing a baby woodpecker!
I like how your words complemented the photo. There is indeed a sadness in losing a loved one.
And a great frustration in smiling faces Grace, when you are broken hearted.
Very nice take on the painting! She really is an odd character! Sometimes smiles can be obnoxious!
Thank you Dwight! They sure can.
lol you did the opposite take to me, but it’s super cute!
Love the planter head you did Kate. 🙂
She does look like she’s waiting…
Sitting with a broken heart Kerfe…
Rob, your words are so fitting for this painting.
Thank you Sara! 🙂
Oh! The painting came alive with your words.
Thank you Imelda! 🙂
Very clever…and so true! We wait for the world to stop but it doesn’t even sympathize sometimes.
Yes, sadly Lynn.
This is such a great take on this piece. Nothing I would have come up with (which is also great). 🙂 I can understand that feeling where everything annoys, and you do not want to see sunshine or happiness when you are so sad.
Thank you Merril! Melancholy is a strong element in my emotional bag, in spite of the fact that in person I am quite often tossing out humorous, occasionally absurd comments — intended to strike starkly and get a rise out of folks. I find I actually like feeling melancholy at times, even momentarily sad. Crying at sad movies is emotionally stirring for me. But I want no more grief in my life. I have had quite enough of that, thank you!
