Monstrous green dragon of greed & power-lust.
Hour of the Dragon
~
when our insanity of arrogance
distorts our vision
blinding us to reality
when facts annoy
and fiction comforts
when we’re copulating
with false gods
of greed and power
on forsaken altars
of fear and prejudice
then the hour of the dragon
is at hand

Hi! I’m Edgrrr, rob’s shih tzu.
You’ve captured a perfect ominous feeling here, Rob. Well done.
Thank you De! Wish it weren’t so true in these times.
Yours is a portentous quadrille, Rob. I hope those dragons know what to do to put everything right again.
All I see them doing right now is ruining America Kim. Hope some dragon slayer shows up soon!
You had me at /we’re copulating with false gods of greed and power/.
You say this has a political bent, yes I see it, but you mantled your ire in metaphor, which is way cool. For me, though I enjoy writing quadrilles, I find it hard to complete my political message in just 44 words
Just call me the “metaphor man”. I write a lot of “unpadded” poetry Glenn, but I have never felt dVerse was as open as Tess’s Magpie Tales was. I might shock or offend some one here?
Let’s hope that the hour of the dragon is not the final hour for the time of humans on this planet.
I hope not as well Jade, but humankind will come to an end at some time. We have much “growing up” to do if we don’t want to hasten our extinction.
The end is nigh! Love this, Rob
I hope we can somehow not “stupid” ourselves in to our own destruction, but it is certainly up in the air right now Vivian.
Wonderful write, Rob. I especially like our “insanity of arrogance”.
(By the way, you might want to change the alters to altars?)
Thank you Bev for your kind words, and yes, I most certainly fo want to change that spelling! Good catch. Amazing how we can see, but not see at the same time. I hurried to post this before I had to get to my Monday cardiac exercise program.
These words are so true.
Unfortunately they are Arcadia… 🙁
It’s a mad world out there. Dragon scales are their pride. If that doesn’t get humbled, there will be nothing left for anyone, regardless of the victor.
The ever increasing insane public hatred and violence is on the edge of epidemic scale Walter, and we have national leaders that keep spreading the disease of fear and prejudice. Anarchy is coming. I believe the scope of the outbreak eill be staggering.
I fear the hour of the dragon is near and I think all hell will break loose. Compelling and haunting it made me the reader pause for a breath.
Hope the hour is not too late! Thank you True!
wow really packs a powerful punch!
your sentiments resonate strongly …
Kate, I simply cannot abide the arrogance, stupidity, prejudice, and blatant lying that has permeated the highest offices in this land, nor the corrupt cronyism or destructive manipulation of the rule of law. These are the very worst moments in the history of America, save for tge Civil War – and this cancer continues to feed and spread.
Some dragons can devour more than flesh, they can rip apart the soul of a nation. At Glenn’s, I was hoping for a happy dragon world where we don’t kill apex predators, but here I’m fired up to heed the clarion call of the dragon-slayers. Now, if I can find someone to mend my armor.
It eill take a valiant effort on the part of many dragon slayers the bring down the monsters ravading this land – so by all means, get that armor mended Anna. I have gotten a bit too old to wield a sword, but I can sure as hell sharpen them!
This is exactly the type of dragon that scares me more than anything else… This is a dragon that resides in our soul
Yes Björn, those are the fire-breathing dragons of our souls manifest in our actions – and right now “the liar-breathing Dragon Orange” and his evil horde, are laying siege to my country. Sadly, I see no dragon slayers powerful enough to bring him down.
Wow! This caution is intense Rob
Much????love
And those evil dragons have taken over Washington DC Gillena, and we need some righteous dragon slayers to take them down ASAP!
I think we’re there, Rob. The dragons are flying.
Yes Jane, these dragons are in flight, circling Washington DC, led by the monstrous liar-breathing Dragon Orange” and his evil horde. We are in critical need of some righteous dragon slayers to bring them down. But where to find them?
I love how the picture accentuates the truth of your words.
Thank you Astrid!
The hour is here! There’s a wonderful rollicking build to the pressure of the 12th hour in this, a punchy one.
Yes Paul, the hour is here, and I see no righteous dragon slayers in the kingdom thst can end the destruction.
This is a powerful quadrille with an impactful message. Excellent Rob!
Thank you Linda! We are in desparate need of some righteous dragon slayers to rout liar-breathing Dragon Orange” and his evil horde, from Wahington DC – and do it soon before the destruction becomes irreversible.
Arrogance and hatred must be defeated by humble love or the dragon will slay us all, Rob.
Yes Lynn, arrogance and hatred certainly must be defeated, beginning especially with that liar-breathing Dragon Orange” and his evil horde, that have taken over Washington DC. We need some righteous dragon slayers NOW!!
I love this, Rob! You say it as it is without holding back. The hour of the dragon is seemingly at its peak right now.
Yes it is HA, all around the world. We need some righteous slayers to step forward, and sooner better than later.
“when we’re copulating
with false gods” —
Great line!
Thank you qbit!
The Hour of the Dragon is at hand and the War Pigs have the power.
Interestingly enough, I dreamed today that the Blowhard in Chief had a total mental breakdown. I’m not saying that this was a prophetic dream, only that it was all too real.
I think he has had a mental breakdown, just that the Republican congress won’t do anything about it.
I love the briefer forms of poetry rather than those that go on and on. You couched your terms in perfect metaphor. Bravo.
Thank you Toni! I like short, medium, or long length – if the poet is capable of writing a poem to engage.
The best poetry is a great metaphor (in my opinion) and you have exceeded yourself here!
Thank you Margaret!
Scary times, indeed. Well said.
Thank you Merril.
