“The power of imagination” by: joiedevivre89
Oh —
if I could but glide
like a bird in flight
I would soar skyward
in sweeping circles
lifted high
on mighty thermals
not earthbound
not prisoner
to this rock and clay
not a captive
of gravity
of memory
of heartache
this day
my spirit
would be light as air
untethered
away
gone

When I was down growing up I wished I could fly. But I really didn’t care, wanted to fall and die. But I never did.
BTW, I’m “Jim1Jim1” on the NaPoWriMo site.
..
Have always thought it would be incredible to fly with my own wings Jim. 🙂 I hate crowded airlines. 🙁
A beautiful capturing of the true freedom that birds know. This is lovely Rob!
Thank you Carrie… 🙂
A poignant poem.
Thank you Sunita… 🙂
I can feel that wish to lift up and off………..sometimes I watch eagles drifting on the wind thermals……..like they are windsurfing the sky.
Wouldn’t it be great Sherry? 🙂
Good write. 🙂
Thank you Jenna! 🙂
If I had to choose an animal to be it would definitely be a bird. Your words soar.
Thank you Kerfe!
I so wish!
Me as well my friend — such freedom!
If only, I have often dreamt of sprouting wings and taking flight. There is a sense of unknown freedom soaring the thermals of life. Beautifully expressed my friend.
Thank you True. That poem concluded my week of writing only about love. The other, “Anybody?” Invites my cynicism to retake a seat at the table of my emotions.
I totally absorbed into your poem today. I luv birds of which i am familiar and wild horses of which i have seen in movies.
And were i in the animal kingdom i think i would have been good as either one or the other.
Happy Sunday
Much love…
I here you Gillena, and much love to you my friend
If only – I think we would all like to soar in this way!
It would be so very welcome Ingrid, to leave my body, and soar weightless — up, away, and gone. Leave this slab of meat, weighed done by gravity, and the pain of age and failing health… dven if just for a couple days,, to ferl limber, pain-free vitality! Wow!
Your poem is lovely and full of inspiration … (though you gifted us the Beatles, I could not stop thinking about Free Bird and Lynyrd Skynyrd.)
I flashed on Skynyrd’s song Helen, but felt the sentiment of the Beatles song better reflected my poem — but I like both. 🙂
Like a dream. Yes, if only.
Yes! Thank you Marion… 🙂
This speaks to my grief. I wish I could fly beyond it. It is too new too raw. I have a long valley to walk. Beautiful poem
May you find the wings Susie, may you again fly…
I can see the bird rise…
Such freedom!
That’s why I asked the Dalai Lama why animals are considered a lesser being than a human.
Wish I could fly!
Yesi
Wouldn’t it be splendid, even for a day!
