Modified Tennyson imitation — nine lines with a rhyme pattern AABBCCCCC, and using four trochees per line, with a touch of surrealistic humor.
while this bunny thumps like crazy
help me fry it golden brownish
stuffing it in uncle’s sandwich
never liked that purple rabbit
acted poorly — now I’ve had it
sang off key each time I’d pet it
stole my shoes and uncle let it
now it’s lunch — and uncle ‘et‘ it

Crazy good, brother–it emerges as modern Tennyson, with a touch of Lewis Carroll , with a pinch of Bukowski; both bawdy and surreal. I went full frontal “ee”, and really enjoyed it.
Thank you Glenn. Now that this is out of my head, I plan to try on my “ee” hat. 😉
Very nice last line with “et”. And very surrealistic.
Thank you Frank, it was fun to write.
It seems several people were imitating Tennyson. I liked this. It was fun and surreal.
Thank you Toni, I am glad you enjoyed this.
What a clever bit of humor you brought us, Rob. Bravo!
Thank you Bev…! 🙂
I love rabbit, but I couldn’t eat the one I pet! Very clever!
Thank you Mary.
Nursery rhyme that leaves kids crying, I love it. A Dark Velveteen indeed!
Thank you Lisa. I was feeling darkly playful… 😉
I liked the surrealism!
Cool “L” I love surreal!
Great job on this one!
Thank you Dwight. This was a light journey through my dark side, one dead bunny will always lead to a many more live ones! 😉
This really made me laugh out loud – an unusual feat for a poet! The rhythm is perfection, and I loved the mock-heroics of it. It reminds me of something……..
Maybe this? https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/hiawatha-s-photographing/
I am truly happy this made you laugh Sarah, and it makes me seriously worrief about you. This was a wonderfully crazy kinda humorous cruelty… but I enjoyed writing it, so I will accept the ramifications. Deep fried rude purple rabbit fed to a pain-in-the-ass uncle is hip gallows humor.
One thing this prompt has made me do is read Tennyson, with whom I’m barely familiar.
Cool Xan! It is good to discover new things.
Perfect rhythm with a smile too.
Thank you Kerfe.
Don’t think I’ve ever in my life eaten rabbit. But I’ll give it a go 😉
I fed him yo my mean uncle Benita!
How funny… and I have actually eaten rabbit… it sure tastes yummy.
Hasenpfeffer is delicious! I grew up in a German household Björn.
Love this, Rob. I knew I would from looking at that bunny.
Thank you Sara. Yes, that one bad bunny! 😉
