Killer

…put two bullets in his brain
I shot him twice
at close range
to witness
the power of life
crossing over
and
to feel him die…
cool precision
in a quite rage
sacred act
of raw release
purity of instinct

NOTE: The poem above was written in response to the prompt, “The Other Side” — posted by the Totally Optional Prompt writing prompt blog. We were asked to write a poem from the point of view of a bad person. It could be someone from history, legend, or fiction; it could be someone who’s alive and making headlines. Regardless, someone whose acts you consider criminal or reprehensible.
*The man and his actions, as depicted in this poem, are totally fictional — and purely evil.
You have depicted someone without conscience or any human feeling. .. a psychopath.

Yes. That is precisely the ‘mind’ into which I was delving — the point of view I was seeking to represent… a truly ‘bad’, purely evil person.
intersting. i can only add to the comments by saying. i believe it can also come from some who is truely lost. not only of a bad, utterlya bad, person.

Certainly people can be lost, abused, grossly unfortunate in life — but they do not resort to cold calculated murder… that would seem to require the presence of ‘evil’, no matter how one defines evil.
I had a horrible childhood of ongoing abuse, and I was quite ‘lost’ for a number of years — but there was never an inclination to murder. I believe at the peak of my misfortune, I could have killed to save my life — I certainly fought back violently to protect myself on a number of occasions… but not cold blooded murder.
Just my humble opinion…

The word “purity” has such an ironic bent when applied to the dark abyss of evil! Raw and harsh and brilliantly dramatic poem!
