~
on the boulevard
outside
last night’s rain
puddles
midst the chaos of metro-clutter
as if abandoned
by the waters of earth
it shoulders its way
through the culverts
in search of mother sea
this day begins golden and crisp
bird songs echo empty sunrise streets
lovers and their beloved
sit by morning windows
with tea
and curiosity
they talk
in these moments
their souls spill
one into the other
entranced
somewhere
tender lips
are sculpting sweet words
but here in this quiet
I drown in your eyes
fallen into azure pools

Nice metaphor–am loving the thought of loving like water pouring down into the city. Well written.
Oh Rob, that”s lovely. Downing came to my my as well. Love the phrase, ‘…tender lips are sculpting sweet words.’
Ah, the eternal search for mother sea……..
Wonderful!
🙂
Souls spill, as do different forms of water and even tea… beautifully realized, and your drowning, the sad ending of this string of urban pearls… lovely and brimming with tears. Amy

Ooo, thumbs up on this one – eerie!
Loneliness sucks. You’ve expressed that much more fluidly. Expressive. Thanks for sharing this.
I feel this… so beautiful, Rob.
Azul pools, I like!

really lovely magpie…esp loved the’ lovers with their tea and curiosity’…wonderful..
Another grand outsider noir piece,
Rob, loved the feel of it, like pulp
fiction covers, like B&W noir films;
sweet, sad, surly, lost, hopeful
all intact.
Azul pools is perfect.
=)
Exquisite. Thank you.
Gorgeous write Rob…it reminded me of this song…

I have never been able to write of love with such a flow, a sense of wonder. This is gorgeous.
Soulful, creative imagery bearing testimony to lonesomeness in the morning. Beautiful.

pure beauty even between the lines
Rob, you really painted this scene perfectly. The metaphor becomes the scene itself, this is really an outstanding piece on a few levels. Great job. Thanks
Wonderful imagery, and a great structure as well.
Nice work here.
Lovely….love these words…tender lips are sculpting sweet words..excellent!
Just beautiful, mournful. Loved this line in particular:
bird songs echo empty sunrise streets
and I drowned in the loveliness of your words.
