an evil villain who’s a hopeless clown
I wonder how this horror movie ends
this clown’s so old he prob’ly wears depends
that explains his struggle not to frown
is this the plot the studio intends
no way that clown and beauty queen are friends
not as hot as she looks in that gown
I wonder how this horror movie ends
bet he’s gonna kill her with those book ends
perhaps he’ll beat her with her pageant crown
so what’s the plot the studio intends
no wait, this is a RomCom – that offends
all this lovey dovin’ brings me down
this cannot be the way this movie ends
I came here for horror – gore that frightens
man this is such a disappointing letdown
this can’t be the plot the studio intends
this cannot be the way this movie ends

Yeah, I hate it when the plot careens down some red herring
alley, and gets lost in the translation, divorced from logic, unhinged, and not what you envisioned. Don’t those bastards know who you are? Excellent capture of the villanelle form. Glad you had some fun with it.
Yes Glenn, who the hell do they think they are? 🙂
I’m glad you write a villanelle with a villain. It seems only appropriate.
That was my thought exactly Mary! 😉
What a twist and let down it would be then Rob. The confusion was apparent with your line: this cannot be the way this movie ends.
Hey, I enjoy rom-com instead of horror movies.
I like a RomCom occasionally Grace. Truth be told, I personally “hate” horror movies – my imagination and ability to suspend my disbelief, are both way too acute. I like drama, SciFi, adventure, brilliant animation, and top quality Super Hero movies. The last two catagories allow me to devolve to my childhood, which I enjoy! 🙂
Oh, this is lots of fun. I’m not a horror movie fan, but you got me at the idea of being beaten to death with a pageant crown. Films make for odd couples, don’t they?
The repetitions work well here, I think. I can imagine sitting in the cinema, asking those questions over and over, and not liking the answer.
Hope you had popcorn.
Was not able to access my serious or contemplative emotions – so I was playing with a zany bit of mirth and whimsy Sarah… 🙂
Your poem is delightful. I like the humor in it.
I think this movie would have been fun to watch too.
Thank you Imelda… 🙂
I thought you were talking about the clown in office, and most, if not all of it, would fit that thought. Fun times with the villanelle, Rob 🙂
Feel free to apply it Jade… but I refer to “Trumpty Dumpty” as the ASSHAT! 🙂
this is brilliant, Rob, very funny! JIM
Thank you Jim, it was fun to write… 🙂
Ha, that was great fun to read, and you rocked the form.
Thank you Rosemary… 🙂
Oh that’s the worst thing when the plot flattens to something mundane.
Yes Bjorn, it certainly is…!
This is a tricky topic for a Villanelle, Rob, but you’ve cracked it with the repeating lines, and I love the touch of humour!
Try as I might, just couldn’t get in a serious frame of mind the day I wrote this Kim… 🙂
