When our life meets fate and time, things get ‘real’ damned quickly.
this being human is……
……………full of contradictions
this being human is……
………………an aweful scourge
this being human is……
………………an awesome gift
this being human is……
………………tears in your eyes
…some of them are joyous…
this being human is……
……………………full of danger
this being human is……
……………………full of wonder
this being human is……
……………………full of pain
this being human is……
……………………full of pleasure
this being human is……
……………………full of promise
this being human is……
…………full of disappoingment
…sometimes full of bullshit…
this being human is……
……………………full of love
this being human is……
……………………full of hate
this being human is……
……………………full of hurry
this being human is……
……………………full of wait
this being human is……
……………………full of highs
this being human is……
……………………full of lows
this being human is……
……………………full of screams
this being human is……
……………………full of dreams
this being human is……
……………………full of songs
this being human is……
……………………being right
this being human is……
……………………being wrong
…sometimes a damned fool…
this being human is……
……………………full of victory
this being human is……
……………………full of defeat
this being human is……
……………………full of friends
this being human is……
……………………full of enemies
this being human is……
……………………full of arriving
this being human is……
……………………full of leaving
…sometimes it’s being lost…
this being human is……
………………the mystery of birth
this being human is……
………………the horror of death
this being human is……
………………the uplifting sunrise
this being human is……
…………the mindblowing sunset
this being human is……
…………the night’s magic moon
this being human is……
…………sometimes a nightmare
this being human is……
…………everything that we dare
this being human is……
……………more than imagined
this being human is……
……sometimes even a miracle
………………but yes………………
this being human is……
…a cornucopia of contradictions
……………………but thankfully
it’s all life, everything we got……
so what TO DO……………………
………………………just keep breathing

Day 9 poetry at: NaPoWriMo 2021
You encapsulate it all very well. <3
Thanks RW… 🙂
Excellent. I especially liked the occasional 3rd line.
Thank you Ron… 🙂
This is fantastic!! I especially love; “this being human is tears in your eyes…some of them are joyous.” 🙂
Thank you Sanaa, very much… 🙂
Oh please, Rob, this is driving me nuts. What’s the title of this song, and did Kristophersen write it? It’s buried in my brain somewhere. Loved your write. Life’s a helluva journey, eh what?
It is called “The Pilgrim – Chapter 33”, and yes, he did write it. One of his best! From his album “The Silver Tongued Devil and I” released in July, 1971.
Thanks!
You are welcome! 🙂
Being human is really complicated as you have so well illustrated in your pome. Love the Emmy Lou and Kris!
“Silver Tongued Devil and I” was a brilliant album, and that version of Kris’s “Pilgrim Chapter 33” with Emmylou Harris is captivating, done flawlessly, heading into their sunset years! Glad you liked it Dwight!
Inventive inventory, Rob.
Got caught in the rails Ron, so I rode it!
I like the positives and negatives since that is really how life goes!
Thank you Christine… 🙂
Rob, I think you pretty much covered all of it! I laughed at the “bullshit” line 😀
<3
David
Thanks David. Truisms are always funny and hard hitting!
Great job, Rob! The prompt line is suited to list poetry, and yours is well-observed – from experience I’d say, Oy Vey! At the end of the day, it is indeed an awesome gift and a cornucopia of contradictions. I enjoyed the breath-taking pace and the rhymes.
Thank you Kim. The pace was purposeful, and I enjoyed the rhymes sprinkled around. This was a fun one t’run down t’done! I had fun with the occasional “1-liners”, to break the pace. Not my best piece ever, but a very satisfying write for me.
Yes to everything on this list! You summed it up so well in the lines
‘this being human is……
…a cornucopia of contradictions’
Thanks Ingrid, and so it is… 🙂
It’s a bit of “13 ways to look at a tree” (or whatever that exercise is called), but enhanced so by the visual aspect of the extended ellipses. I read it twice, then again back to front, which gave it a whole other feel again. Very well done.
Thank you so much Xan… 🙂
Yes, shaped by all we experience.
Thank you Ken
I looked up “oy vey”…Yiddish for “woe is me!”…fits our human condition. Good one, Rob!
Loosely it can be interpreted to mean — “you got to be kidding!?”
Indeed… we are living on the edge of all those contradictions.
And it is in the honest fired clash of those contradictions that life happens Bjorn — growth, change, beauty, innovation, breakthroughs. The stuff that makes life worth living!
It is…..all of these things and how lucky we are that it is!
EXACTLY SHERRY! ….. slam the book!
Preach!
Hear!
I see you have a hard time picking one thing when as a human you can experience it all!! 🙂
No Tricia, I am saying we do experience it all, all the time — in the ongoing contradiction we call humaness.
I was teasing a bit. I guess being human is an ongoing contradiction. I know men think that about women, at least! haha!
We are all contradictions because life is one big contradiction!
wonderful agree on the contradictions!
Thanks
Love the cornucopia!
Thank you Zelda!
This is wonderful, Rob! It sums up life, and the passages we go through.
Thank you Sara, glad it resonates for you!
This being human is filled with so many things and you have captured the aspects of life in a wonderful flow of words.
Thank you True, very much… 🙂
My sentiments well put by another.
Thank you Sean… 🙂
