dusk slowly advances
night’s chill begins to settle
all the dreams have gone to bed
I sit quietly
close by this fire
soothed by its crackling glow
warmed by memories
that huddle ’round me
soul settled
heart full

Oh, I love that “crackling glow.” There’s just something about a fire, isn’t there?
By its nature it is transformative. It’s essence is magical and transportive De — carry me away…
What a lovely poem. Soothing and settling. It is indeed good to sit by the fire and let your soul settle.
Thank you Toni! It is the sooth for the crazies… 🙂
What a pleasant place to be!
Embracing and comfortable Lisa.
Staring into flames, primordial indeed–after dreams go to bed, ancestors and spirit animals stir in the embers. This is a superb and halcyon piece; smile.
Thanks Glenn. You gleaned my vision of this piece bro. The world within the flame.
There is a lot to like here. “All the dreams have gone to bed.” Wow. And of course the “crackling glow.” Really good writing Rob!

Thank you Frank. As I commented to Rosemarie — just read my comment to Björn, and the full meaning behind the line “all the dreams have gone to bed” will be revealed.
aaah. so peaceful. the thought of dreams going to bed is so creative.
If you look Rosemarie, at what I commented to Björn, you will see the depth of meaning I put into that particular line, “all the dreams have gone to bed”. I am very pleased this resonated for you.
Wonderful to sit there even though the dreams have gone to bed…
My thought was Björn, that this is a moment of being here peaceful, with the warmth of the fire, and the warmth of beautiful meaningful memories — and with gratitude. Not a time to be looking ahead, not being mentally drawn forward, not distracted, not yearning, but in the presence of your life now, and the love ones and precious happenings that brought you here, to this quiet moment of reflection and reverie… all the plans for the moment put away, all the dreams have gone to bed. Tomorrow we will look to the future again.
Such a peaceful quadrille, Rob!
Thank you Kim. I am pleased you enjoyed it.
Nothing like a crackling fire in the cool eve, but I really love the idea your paint of being warmed by memories.
Thank you Paul. A comfortable summons memories for me, and gratitude.
Ah, the peaceful solitude so well described. Nothing like toasting one’s toes by the fire and letting the cares of the world fade away. You describe it so well, Rob!

“all the dreams have gone to bed”
This superb line stands out among this cozy, comforting autumn poem. Chicken soup, man.
Thank you Barry! Chicken soup for the soul. This is a moment of being here and now, peaceful, with the warmth of the fire, and the warmth of beautiful meaningful memories — and with gratitude. Not a time to be looking ahead. All the plans and visions of the future for the moment put away, “all the dreams have gone to bed”. Tomorrow we will look to the future again.
Poignant in that dreams have gone to bed and you are settled in with memories, but settled so all good. And a fine feel/sound to this poem.
Thank you D!
“Soul settled, heart full.”
This is a feeling I have often experienced sitting my the campfire.
It’s a wonderful freeing feeling isn’t it Ali!
