She sat at the crown
of the twilight knoll
watching the river roll
into the setting sun
flowing lifelessly cold
carrying me away
she — the one
my love couldn’t hold
she’d shattered my heart
the splintered shards
fell hard with my tears
broken apart

Such gorgeous melancholy here, Rob. Well done.
Thank you De. Matches my majority mood in recent weeks.
A river is a most useful image for a drift that’s irreversible.
So cold and sad and lonely. Well done!
Thank you Susan… 🙂
That broken heart is hard to get over. Shards don’t mend very well! Well done, Rob.
Thank you Dwight.
Heartbreak is hard to mend. Luv the rolling river though.
Much love…
Love to watch a river roll! Much love Gillena
Why do heartbreaks make for such beautiful lyrics? Yours and Eric Clapton’s.
Pax,
Dora
They stimulate the heart and deep thought and sorrow — simultaneously. That’s a trifecta of being alive Dora.

David
Love your perspective here David!
A broken heart is difficult to mend. But nature soothes, especially rivers.
The flow of a river, the flow of time Merril.
Heart seems like forever, until it’s not. This captures that “forever.”
And that should say “Hurt seems like forever…”
😉
Thank you Ken — exactly.
Somber yet beautiful poem Rob.
Thank you Carrie…:)
The first two lines carried me away.
I am pleased Jane… 🙂
she’d shattered my heart the splintered shards

Love the showing of how cruel others had been to do harm to us to leave us shattered and they exhibit no conscience at all. Good show Rob!
Hank
2-sided, equal love is rare Hank. 🙂
Can you ever mend from such sorrow?
No Bjorn, only let it fade.
I love your poem… and Eric Clapton! I believe we never really heal from a broken heart. We just learn to adapt.
Lost love is indeed a river of tears.
Easy to drown.
