stick our heads out of the windows
look at those beautiful butterflies
do they know which way the wind blows
we are rollin’ rollin’ rollin’
not certain where we’re goin’
I lost my pearly guitar pic
it’s been missin’ now for hours
I found my favorite baseball mitt
in a field full of wild flowers
acres of virgin rain forest
more than 200,000 everyday
what d’fuck is it we’re thinkin’
cutting those vital trees away
we keep rollin’ rollin’ rollin’
no idea where we’re goin’
let’s put on a sunny face
let’s not appear we’re dour
we’ll wash away the smudge of guilt
while we boogie down in my shower
630,000 machine guns
are privately owned in the USA
that is a lotta gaw-damned firepower
on the loose here everyday
ya’bet’cha — ya’bet’cha
oh hell yes — ya’bet’cha
maybe just to clear my head
I’ll go ’n climb that water tower
wow — I can see a lot from here
like those school kids by the flowers
229 school shootings
337 victims have sadly died
when you send your children off to school
no guarantee they’ll come back alive
the horror’s rollin’ rollin’ rollin’
the solution is not known
hey — where’s that sunny funny face
maybe if we all join in a song
perhaps sing a song of freedom
get the world to sing along
ya’bet’cha — ya’bet’cha
oh hell yes — ya’bet’cha
oh sure — the world’s begun to flood
the part that’s not — is burning
the world’s plague continues mutating
but hey — at least the earth keeps turning
it’s getting very hard to deal with
like everybody has gone insane
sometimes I’d like to fly away
just leave behind this pain
oh shit — I really messed my hair
guess it’s time to go back home
time it seems is relative
my friends and relatives are gone
wind up that open window please
my apathy’s blowin’ away
when interplanetary trips begin
I’m off to mars that very day
soon I will be flown flown flown
into outer space I’m goin’
g’bye — so long
OLÉ!

It definitely reads like a catchy song Rob! Some mighty fun poetic nonsense goen’ on round here!!
Yo Carrie! My brain was somersaulting this morning, this is what rolled out… 😉
You smokin’ funny weed? You’re speakin’ in tongues!
The world just looks odd to me sometimes Bev… 😉
OMG OMG OMG OMG. Could I love this epic any more? No way Jose!
Ya’bet’cha for sure.
I got caught up fallin’ down this rabit hole and couldn’t stop Helen… 🙂 perhaps it was the residue of a flashback? 😉
… no doubt.
🙂
Wow! A song which is fluid and catchy!
Thank you Sunita… 😉
WOW you sang me a beautiful son via your poem.
Talking Heads is certainly the icing on the cake
HAPPY SUNDAY ROB
much love…
Znd the song never ends Gillena!
You sing, I’ll join in the chorus! LOL
OK! 😉
This is definitely an alternate universe earworm!
Appeared to me in a fever dream Chrissa?
Crayzee song – so much fun stuff going on in this! (I love Talking Heads btw).
Just plain mad Marion! 🙂
What a wonderful bouquet of words, Rob. Tropical flowers of lament. We could live in a garden of eden if we could just get our heads straight.
Thank you Lisa, and yes, we could do so much better…. This piece was experimental to me. About 80% SOC, with a 20% portion loosely focused rant. Not sure how much I like the result here? I don’t hate it, so I may just let this version stand. Probably harvest it later for a complete rebuild, and turn out a different 2nd poem from it.
Crikey!
Crikey is right Rosemary. This came out in a burst. I plan to do some significant editing and create a 2nd poem.
Nice dumping, Rob. He’s unloading all his troubles, troubles and ills of the world, and his feelings from the naughties he’s pulled(i.e. poor cat, et al). Plus someone to shock with hits 4-letter words, my grandkids censor mine. I like the little chorus also, the ones between the verses.
..
Thanks Jim…
I would have loved being inside your head when you wrote this. Love Talking Heads!
It was an amusement park in there Sara.
this beat like a song, Sir. And the statistics you dropped there sounds like one bomb after another. lethal and true.
Hi Rosemarie – those stats were true in January of this year, so I doubt they changed much, if any.
You’ve put into words the mind swirl I’ve been having lately. Every day is WTH, and where can I go to escape. We are on a fast crazy train without brakes.
I really don’t know Susie? 🙁
