L ooking into the branches
they are leafless, springtime bare
so I leap up and grab a tight hold
invigorated by the cool, fresh air
strong branches reach up skyward
gently stirring, rustling in the sun
on the breeze this whisper carries
“soon your time on earth is done”
I gaze upon the gnarled tree trunk
the tangled limbs of twisted wood
and in this moment of pure insight
realize that I’ve always understood
that life and death go hand in glove
and in this short time that we enjoy
embrace truth, peace, equal justice
strive to build better, not to destroy
into the darkness we must bring light
must bring hope, stifle hate and fear
contribute more to those who have less
make the world brighter by being here
~
Light of the world, shine on brightly,
shine until we all are free!

Some magnificent lines in this Rob. The closing lines are inspiring and words to live by.
I thank you Carrie… 🙂
yes, I agree with Carrie – that last stanza is the one I zeroed in on, Rob! I love the message of this poem so.
BTW – did you see that I posted and responded to the poem that you sent me for Poetry Partners?
Much love,
David
Thank you David… yes, I did see that you posted my piece — thank you my friend! 🙂
As Elders, the journey has afforded us a fair amount of wisdom, insight. Your poetry never fails to showcase that. Cheers and Happy Week.
Thank you Helen, and cheers to you my friend… 😉
You’ve interpreted both these images beautifully, Rob 🙂
Thank you Sunra… 🙂
Once again a beauty of a poem with deep rooted meaning. We must remember to be a beacon of light until the end.
Hang on my friend, you have more poems to write and I am grateful to be a witness to your story.
Thank you True, very much. I will hang on, because I still have to see my grandson into high school — that’s 5 more years… so I’m gonna make it to 80, and hopefully beyond… 🙂
The truth rings clear in this, Rob. Life and death do go hand in hand, and best to strive to leave things better when it is time to go.
Thank you Lisa… 🙂
