Ship of Wonders

Original DDE™ surrealistic art: “Ship of Wonders” by: rob kistner © 6/10/24

Fantastic — this spell I’m under
a splendorous magical kind
cornucopic world of wonder
troves of dreams to plunder
a kingdom of my mind

fantasy’s elaboration
on marvel’s sails I ascend
navigating rich hallucination
sweetest figments of imagination
oh, would this dream but never end

  1. This is so magical Rob, May your dreams always travel on billowing sails, pushing forward in the land of imagination and creativity.

    1. Thank you Ron. These days I love creating the art almost as much as I do the poetry. Now that I have all my digital art tools working pretty well together, I can no longer do one without the other. And they frequently both take me about the same amount of time. Of course, I am a world class procrastinator when it comes to creating anything. I am never satisfied, so I redo it multiple times before I post it (and possibly again weeks, months, and years later) — but I love it.

  2. Rob, doesn’t it seem sometimes like the dream world is so much more exciting than the waking world? We tend to look at dreams as when we rest, but maybe as we get older it reverses? I love the graphic you created. Makes me want to jump into it! Love the Loggins & Messina music also.

  3. Well I will definitely sail with you on the ship of wonders! Great rhyming within the poem, Rob….so excellent I had to read it twice because when I finished I thought, wait, did he use rhyming? When the rhyming disappears and the poem flows and the meaning is the focus, that’s the mark of a very good poet! Love this one!

  4. Day dreaming ~ night dreaming, oh the possibilities. Your quadrille reminds me sailing is a great metaphor for dreaming! I love the feeling when the sails are billowing and I am free falling. Amazing art you created for us .. no matter how long it took.

    1. Thank you so much Helen. 😉 I have frequently had sailing and flying dreams — which I have enjoyed since my youth. 🙂 I much prefer those type dreams to my occasional nightmares. I also have infrequent night terrors, which I have also experienced since my youth — but thankfully much much less often in the 35 years we’ve lived in the Pac NW. But they still visit me sometimes. A terrifying dream about nothing — just abject terror. Such an exciting night 🙁

  5. PS I just enjoyed the music too – thank you fo sharing. I have new hearing aids that play Inside My Head (via the miracle of Bluetooth, according to my audiologist Gordon), and suddenly my sound-world has become as delicious as your (sweetest) dreams.
