true love hovers steeply
high overhead
the lover’s climb
it’s said
it’s rewarding frustration
full of emotion
at times exasperation
mostly devotion
the climb can have distraction
sometimes lack satisfaction
leave one hanging in air
yet committed to share
love’s ellusive heart
Love the elusive dream! Ah, so true…so near and yet so far! Steeped in love… that is where we all should be! Well done, Rob!
Well thank you Ruth, er I mean, Dwight! Ruth Roth, what a great name!
OOps … using my wife’s computer today!
🙂
Even with a risk of failing it’s worth the risk of climbing
Yes Bjorn. Sometimes a heart or two needs be broken to find one that is strong and true…
ah if only the lovers were sincere in their steeped emotions – there would be no need to climb so far, love the melody of your words Rob.
Thank you Gina! A little endeavor is important to a strong relationship. If it can’t endure a climb or two, it may not be true.
I like the use and repetition of “steeply”. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as they say. Perfect image to pair with your quadrille!
Thank you Mish. Not sure which version you read. I have been editing it live. It was the image that inspired the final write. After deciding on the image, I realized I had unfortunately posted the poem prematurly. It is finally finished to my liking now. I appreciate your visiting and commenting… 🙂
LOVE all your use of rhyme here. Wonderful.
Glad you enjoyed this De. This poem from the beginning was going to be sbout lovers pursuing love, but the writing started out in one direction, to be free verse, then I came across the image, seen here, in my image library. Inspired, I began incorporsting rhyme until – voila!
Beautiful, Rob. Always worth the climb.
Thank you Sara! I refer to a love relationship as a climb because it is not always easy, you have to pay attention to your steps along the way, not missing the important ones nor making a misstep. And if you lose footing, you have to carefully regain it – or you fall. But if you are successful, you end up on top of the world.
I like this combination of words: “rewarding frustration”
Seems like an oxymoron, but not sure. Glad you liked that phrase Frank. Popped into my head and stuck.
