secures the sunset gun
day’s journey ends
for the weary sun
quicksilver moon
readies her night’s course
marksman’s sharp eye’s set
his duty he’ll enforce
marksman locks the horizon
solid in his sight
fires the sunset gun
beckoning forth the night

Nice rhymes in this.
Thank you Toni. This was inspired by a song from the late 80’s, by the group: Animal Logic.
Great rhymes here Rob!
Thank you Linda! 🙂
I love that photo! I like the mindfulness here.
Thank you Lisa! I have always been captivated by the phrase “sunset gun”.
I really like this one. It does have a sense of a ballad about it, kind of a Springsteen vibe. Excellent word-smithing on top of killer rhyming.
Thank you Glenn. Springsteen — wow, you humble me. Some of his lyrics are wonderful.
Nice last two lines.
Thank you Frank!
Such an interesting (if somewhat violent) image of the sunset gun. Nicely done, Rob. You came up with an interesting twist for the prompt while still using sunset. That photo is beautiful!
No, it’s not violent Merril – it shoots the colors of sunset, plus stardust and moonbeams. 🙂 I used both “sunset” and “set”.
And the sun so loved the moon that each night he died to let her shine. Wonderful sentiment and great use of the rhyming pattern. Love it! Oh and AWESOME pic, reminds me of Sedona. 🙂
Thank you. Isn’t that a beautiful concept Jeannette — of love! 🙂 The picture is of the saguaro desert area west of Tucson
I like the concept of the marksman, and the photo is stunning. Such beauty around us we take for granted.
Thank you Bev! 🙂 With the younger generation transfixed to their iPhone & iPad screens, they seem to seldom look up to see anything…
Shooting that creates…I like that.
Thanks Kerfe! I saw it as a magical type, non-destructive device of creation – kind of an environmental cornucopia.
And what a kaleidoscope of color it turned out to be. Beautiful!
Thank you Dwight! 🙂
I feel it has a lyrical feel to it and it sounds like the night might be filled with color. In my mind though I pictured a paint gun splashing color on the big canvas called the sky.
Gorgeous photo – I could get lost in that moment
That is pretty close to my vision of it True, though the paint would be organic in nature, coloring more than coating — but vividly so.
I know the paint would be organic much like the desert. Perhaps, more like an air brush sky. The gun enforces the explosion of vivid color. The sunset looks like that some days.
You and I are on the same wavelength here TRUE! 🙂
Beautiful as always Rob….and a lovely photo
Thank you Christine, you are ver kind!
A new phrase to me, ‘sunset gun’, Rob. Your quadrille would be a great song, it has the right rhythm and rhyme scheme.
No, it’s not violent Kim – the sunset gun does not fire bullets. It shoots the colors of sunset, plus stardust and moonbeams. 🙂 That is pretty close to my vision of it, though the paint would be organic in nature, coloring more than coating — but vividly so. Sorta like a cosmic paint-gun, but again, it does not “coat “ like paint, it colors like anilin dye would a very magical, non-violent uplifting, upgrading technology.
Someone should take that gun away from him…
You really don’t like sunsets Jane? The sunset gun does not fire bullets. It shoots the colors of sunset, plus stardust and moonbeams. 🙂 That is pretty close to my vision of it, though the paint would be organic in nature, coloring more than coating — but vividly so. Sorta like a cosmic paint-gun, but again, it does not “coat“ like paint, it colors like anilin dye would — a very magical, non-violent uplifting, upgrading technology
I love this combination! It makes the sun set into serious business, drawing appreciation for its beauty.
Thank uou Astrid, sunset is serious business – and this wonderful, funky, magic gun — this. Shooter of stardust, moonbeams, and sunset colors makes it beautiful! 🙂
The image of shooting the sunset works really well… made me think of a mountain pass resembling a gun-sight
No ammunition in this gun — save stardust, moonbeams, and the colors of sunset! 🙂
I like the way this is “set up” and it did take me by surprise. Unique imagery indeed!
Thank you Mish… 🙂
