Surfacing
half full
your words resonate
and ring reverberant
in my melancholy
half empty
has always been my perspective
finding safety
in my hollow solitude
seeing the world
refracted through my sorrow
a shattered heart
can no longer break
there is nothing to lose
for one who is without
but were your love
to flood my isolation
to drown me in passion
I would gladly
risk it all again
to swim up
to the light
to the warmth
break the surface
buoyant with bliss
wet with desire
to reach
in the throes of ecstasy
to encircle your gentle face
in a lover’s trembling hands
to draw new life’s breath
from your tender lips
offered soft
and open in rescue
in a soul-kiss of rebirth

a powerful rescue/redemption for the drowning theme here, Rob– melancholy but with the surfacing…xj
Passionate, dark, and beautiful…
“a shattered heart
can no longer break”
YES.
Beautiful poem.
I agree with Tess, this is beautiful. I like the half full- half-empty analogy, clever.
Powerful, challenging – and very well done.
I am throwing my undies on the stage Rob, very powerful write, very touching.
Rob … this is breathtaking ….
i like that love encourages us to take risks again and do the things we wouldn’t do naturally..
Ooh, I like this:
“half empty
has always been my perspective
finding safety
in my hollow solitude”
I was excited to see you link up, Rob. I enjoyed your spin on the Magpie prompt.
new life’s breath…
each day we get that chance, love always makes it so much sweeter…
finding safety
in my hollow solitude
seeing the world
refracted through my sorrow
I like the “o,” sound reverberating in this part…great poem!
if your love were to flood in…i like the hope in that…risk is def a huge part of love…
“A soul kiss of rebirth…” This is extraordinary, and with you, that’s saying something, Rob. Saw that pic and guessing it was a Magpie prompt, but wherever it came from, the imagery and sensual breadth of this poem took my breath away. Amy

Rescue indeed! Let’s hope she rescues him…
I keep bumping into this photograph and everyone has a different perspective on it. I very much like yours, despite being a half full person! Love has to be wortgh it.
For a tiny moment, the darkness ebbed,
and you smiled, and a window re-opened
on a heart valve, and love, the universe’s
common denominator, pierced the gloom
and bathed you, and us, in its light; cool.
