Dean Koontz
G athered by the stoney wall
the ever curious crows carous
they bob and caw as they creep
then fly up to birch tree boughs
nearby a young girl sits quiet
by the open window of her room
distracted by this crowish riot
she’s weaving grief with her loom
the silken yarn ensnares her dreams
she stops the shuttle’s pull and shove
the crow’s shriek in pitiful screams
as she cries thinking of her lost love
she is so lonely here in her room
tears like rain fall in the gloom
be gone now noisy birds of black
clustered in this chilling rain
her lover’s never coming back
her broken heart is drenched in pain
be gone crows you’re causing sorrow
with your heartless crazy clatter
she knows her love has no tomorrow
as she’s feeling her world shatter
she mourns here in her lonely room
her tears like rain in heavy gloom

The lady dropped the gaga schtick here as Stefani Germanotta sang from her heart…
…Magnificently!
Rob, you are so on it with describing how crows, their sight, their sound, their habits, feel like manifestations of our darkest sorrows. Excellent writing and love the images you chose and the musical selection.
Thank you Lisa. I tried several directions but I kept coming back to crows and sorrow.
Corvids of all kinds are amazing birds, Rob, and you’ve given us the crow that I know so well, ‘gathered by the stony wall’, bobbing and cawing, connected to sorrow.
Dig them crazy crows Kim… 😉
Crows are indeed fascinating great take ????
Thankyou AJ… 🙂
This is incredibly deep, dark and poignant, Rob! I resonate strongly with; “the crow’s shriek in pitiful screams as she cries thinking of her lost love.”
Glad it resonated for you Sanaa… 🙂
Crows are no good company in sorrow.
Indeed Björn, they always feel, act and sound like they’re taunting you… 🙁
Crows and sorrow….grief and weaving that grief into the loom’s cloth….this is beautifully writ.
Thank you Lillian… 🙂
Beautifully done, Rob. I love the connection of the chilling rain and the heart being drenched with pain.
Thank you Dwight… 🙂
I like how you made the girl equally important as the noisy crows. A great pairing. I am also glad my poem brought you a bit of laughter.
Thank you Helen… I needed to smile, thank you again… 🙂
