The Change

~

edges crisp
form parched and mottled
the brittled leaf yields

gone ablaze
it detaches
drifts down dizzied
as autumn descends

rich rustled russets
musk of downed leaves
textured carpet

crunching
under goblin’s feet
horse’s hooves
wagon wheels

the fragrance of straw
spiced cider
hollowed gourds
heady pumpkin pie

summer’s ebbed

this night’s sky
embraces the blue
of the full moon
iridescing the earth
painting october roads
chill cerulean

I feel the change

  1. As always, you paint beautiful word pictures, Rob. Autumn is such a rich tapestry on which to string our words! Be well, my friend, as winter approaches. Let’s hope our country will face it under a steadier command!

  2. Oh Rob … delightful video/read. I am listening to Van as I type, thru to the end because I am secretly in love with him. I have tons of his music, tons. Thanks much.

As Autumn sets in the change in colors will be more apparent in the copper brown hues as far as the eyes could see. Great word crafting Rob!

  4. Oh–getting to listen to this was awesome! You’ve a voice for conjuring and by the time you reach the line “summer’s ebbed” I was entranced. That shift from blaze to chill was vividly done.

  5. Autumn has its unique color scheme (smells as well). I like autumn, partly because my birthday is embedded in the beautiful Orange of October’s pumpkin end.
