The Fox & The Feather
~
oh to glide
in buoyed flight
soar skyward
in sweeping circles
lift high on mighty thermals
never again earthbound
not a prisoner of gravity
this day would be soaring
and swooping
and diving
giving thanks for feathers
and hollow bones
but
I have no hollow bones
I’m just a little fox
with only this one feather
I found it
over there

NOTE to “Blogger” site owners: I enjoy reading your work, but frustratingly, many “Blogger” sites DO NOT let me post comments? 🙂 So sorry if you don’t see personal comments from me on your “Blogger” site. But I will keep reading your work — and welcoming and responding to your comments here on Image & Verse.
Maybe your little guy who found the feather was related to mine who befriended the bird and bonded with him! Who knows what happens in the woods in the dark of night. I never did conquer the format of the new besotted Blogger, and my text persisted in appearing beside my photo. I think Blogger and WordPress decided to turn us all on our ears simultaneously! A pox on the SOBs!
I’m certain they were friends Bev… Don’t get me started on these two companies. It’s like they are held in a stalemate. 😉
I revert to the old Blogger every time.
In the upper left side panel are three dots. Click on the three dots, one option is revert to Old Blogger. Click this one.
After a couple of hoops you will see possible action links on the left.
Scroll all the way down, the BOTTOM CHOICE is “Revert to” Old Blogger or such.
Click that and you are in.
Best Wishes
..
There you go Bev… 🙂
Oh the freedom this paints across the page! A wonderful poem Rob! I love it!
Thank you Carrie. I fell in love with the brave, slightly bewildered little fox. 🙂
Yes but little Mr. Fox has the warp factor cuteness going for him. I love the ending, it’s so simple and makes a charming counterpoint to the soaring verses.
Yes, he is a charmer. Thank you Shay. The ending seemed to fit. 🙂
ps–I see that you make collages! I used to, as well, in my 20s!
As a part of my early career Shay, I designed, and had manufactured, contemporary furniture, cabinetry, and lighting – focused at home entertainment and home theater. The CAD work involved sparked a love of creating my collages, as well as digital art. Now my passion has turned to creating my 3-D mixed-media Serenity Totems, and my 3-D mixed-media Peace Talismans. And stating the obvious, I also LOVE to write poems and song lyrics — have done it 57 years, since my first rock & roll band in 1963. I also designed the sound reinforcement systems for my bands over the years. The sound reinforcement and home theater design led me to finishing my professional career years with George Lucas’s THX technical division — and my office on Skywalker Ranch. Sorry for rambling. Just an tired old man, with failing health, remembering when…
Everyone dreams of flying…or maybe the feather just draws us into its memories. 🙂
I agree Chrissa. Flight is perhaps the fantasy of all earthbound creatures. We can dive and swim the surface of water unaided, to an effective degree, simply by learning. But our bodies will not fly without the aid of some sort if device.
I think all spirits long to fly like our feathered friends. He looks innocent with that feather. I think he did find it over there. It makes
me wonder where is over there?
Hmmm, yes — I wonder where as well True? 🙂
I love the flying….and the sweet little fox!
Thank you Sherry… 🙂
Love this whimsical wish of a fox who wishes he could fly.
Thank you Susie… 🙂
Dear Tired Old Man,
Your poem is amazing (I also grinned at the ending) and your past is fascinating!
Fondly,
Exhausted Old Lady
Thank you Helen. Guess we can shuffle off over the horizon — yawning… 😉
Wow! Love this Rob. We really thought alike on this one.
Thank you Sara… 🙂 …yes we did.
“I have no hollow bones
I’m just a little fox
with only this one feather” — perfect.
Thank you qbit… 🙂
