beckoned to the final tide
called forth by the ferryman
spirit stirs to the distant voice
that draws you to the journey
caught still in this mortal realm
soul resigned to embarkation
time folding in upon
as slow you approach the vessel

chilling reminder of our mortality-well done!
You out our fragility in this.
Wow, Rob… you amaze me.
Well aren’t you the talent, Mr.! Poetry, art, spoken word! Love your blog and your voice. I am a fan! Happy sharing with the Pantry today!
Great write, Rob.

Oh Rob, I hear that same music playing! Love the poem and the image. Write on!
I like this, Rob: “spirit stirs to the distant voice”
Hmm the final tide
as it approaches we can fear or welcome it
nicely done Rob
I love “resigned to embarkation…” our human dilemma made intensely clear here. xxxj
All in good time, Rob .. all in good time.
that is beautiful rob… i like the idea of the ferryman coming to take me home..
We all have to go on that journey inevitably. Life wouldn’t be life without it. Great writing!
I like your allusion to the one boat, none of us will miss.
Few Magpies have made reference to the Ferryman. I liked this piece very much.
Nice take – it is approaching the viewer rather than the viewer being unable to go.
We all face the journey…
Up or over, sir, across the Styx
or Acheron, with the coins of
obolus or danake in our lips,
or carried on the wings of angels,
or jumping on the heavenly
escalator. Charon is the ferryman,
for sure, but the river of death
gets pretty hot on his vessel.
Regardless, your poem is stirring
and powerful and grounding.
great journey Rob…..thanks
still in his mortal realm -> understatement!! he’s totally stuck 😉
Oooh, I like this take on the image, especially the line “called forth by the ferryman.” Gives a dark and mystic twist, a whole different view, to the journey of the soul. Excellent!
Superb – no more need be said!
