photo collage: “The Secret” — by: rob kistner © 1997
through the dark times
beyond the ages of change
into these times
they have kept it
the keepers of the secret
and now
with great fortitude of will
to safequard frail truth
they must keep it still

And the secret is, “don’t hold your breath until Jesus shows up.” Nice use of the 44 words; certainly stimulated my curiosity.
Never know bros, that might be it — or might not. Them damned keepers of the secret are as tight lipped as the men in black Glenn. 😉
Now, I’m curious! I love secrets 🙂
I love secrets too Viv! 🙂
“the keepers of the secret…”
Love that.
Cool De, I’m glad.
Come on now, Rob, this ain’t Vegas. What’s the secret???
But Lisa, I can’t you — then it wouldn’t be a secret… 😉
Mystical & somber. Nicely done!
Thank you Susan!
Darkly evocative! I like it.
I am glad Bev… 🙂
A mysterious piece that leaves the reader wanting to know more. Well done.
Thank you Arcadia!
The great mystery – Who is the keeper of the secrets and will we ever solve the great mysteries? Perhaps, it’s best the secrets remain secret as I think some of mankind would exploit it for personal gain.
It’s the mystery of life True, never to solved but always to be sought.
Intriguing line: the keepers of the secret.
That line is what spawned the entire poem Grace. It was the seed.
I love the mystery in this one… one that is never solved in this life!
Glad this worked for you Dwight. The secret always sought — why are we here?
People don’t seem to keep secrets today, instead they share their dirty washing with all and sundry on the Internet. As Viv said in her quadrille, we need to keep our hearts in our chests. I’m pleasantly surprised when there are secrets to be discovered, especially ones from the past, even when they’re not very pleasant. I love a mystery!
All that is being flaunted as interesting, meaningful, and important in today’s world, is but drivel and triviality Kim, serving the purpose of keeping the shallow and foolish entertained and distracted. It is the era of “the dumbing”, that precedes the new dark times, from which the new age of wisdom will arise — when the enlightened few will reveal the secret, that will put an end to the fractured chaos of misguided dogmas of human construct, running rampant now as “inspired truth”. Thus, for once setting a united world upright, to again reach outward toward the authentic unknown, toward human destiny — expanding our genuine awareness, to finally take our place among the universal community. But currently, these are the times when the awakened, must embrace quiet patience.
I like how the keepers have kept the secret.
And they will Frank, until the time of revelation dawns.
Perhaps our own secrets contain more truth…
Truth is wounded at this time Kerfe, so the secrets will be preserved until their impact can again ignite knowledge and wisdom.
Such fidelity, a story that shows commitment beyond self, the keepers keep for posterity.
In this age of toxic falsehoods Paul, the sacrosanct secret must be kept, until the dawn of wisdom and truth again rises. Such enlightenment is not to be squandered on, or allowed to be tarnished by, even insignificantly, the ignorance of today’s idiots — who, in the rancor and acid of their hateful and meaningless bile, will dissolve to irrelevance in due time.
I wonder if secrets would be as fascinating as they seems if it wasn’t for the fact that they are kept.
No Björn, the mystery and tension is in the keeping.
I liked the repetition in your poem. It felt a bit like a riddle.
I am pleased you enjoyed this Misky. 🙂
Good poem for an introduction to a mystery novel, for those who love magic mystery.
Thank you.
Very mysterious, Rob. The allure of secrets is, I suppose, that they are secret.
