T here is a needing
there is a caring
there is a taking
and a giving
so make genuine
your heart
as you reach
to clutch such knowing hands
as these
hands withered by life
deeply etched in wisdom
carved by experience
they bless you
with their touch
these beautiful hands
these fragile hands
strong with knowledge
anointed hands
blessed by time
and the will to endure
their radiance
envelopes their sainted touch
open hands
of precious flesh
reaching to you
through the ages
their sacred essence
is their touch
grasp firm
but gentle
hold tight these hands
enwrap them
in love
understanding their fate
may be your deliverance

I love this:
“the radiance of clarity
envelopes the sainted touch”
Thank you Shawna… 🙂
A powerful journey into the world of touch. The duality of of the impact of hands. A tender touch can heal.
Thank you for saying so True… 🙂 Human hands are in and of themselves wonderful tools, capable of so much positive and good — and they can unfortunately be weapons of chaos, destruction, and evil. But they are amazing when healthy and used to advance the species.
Hello True. I just realized this evening that I had inadvertently posted a link to the working draft of my piece entitled “Touch”. That is what you read. I have corrected the error. The link now takes you to the final edit of the finished piece, which has evolved significantly from the initial working draft. I’m embarrassed. ???????????????
Hi Rob no need to be embarrassed all poetry is a work in progress. I tend to change mine a bit after posting. Never fear, I am sure I will always enjoy whatever you post.
I constantly am editing my pieces, have since I wrote my first lyrics in ‘63. I do not post a piece that I do not feel represents my completed vision in the moment. I inadvertently posted a link to the working draft of “Touch”. It was not a completed vision. I accidentally released that link. It’s for that reason I was frustrated. I will post a number of edits of base pieces for publication, if I feel the edits are worthy. I also go back quite a while, time to time, and select a long-completed piece, and build upon it for a future piece, if I feel the expanded piece addresses a new idea I am developing. I then publish the new, and keep all other iterations published as well. Old pieces can provide great creative fodder for new work. In the end, it is all my work.
which they freely bestow
they are your deliverance
Great woodcraft, Rob and a good close!

Thank you Brendan, that means a great deal to me…
A lovely tribute to the importance of touch <3
Yes Angela, and the importance of relating to in caring for the elders of our human tribe, that is also the focus of this piece. Thanks you for visiting to read.
“There is a needing
there is a caring” – 100%
Thank you Brett. The need is always there somewhere in the world, what’s missing far too often is the caring.
A touching tale in more senses than one.
Thank you so much Keith, I appreciate that.
This is beautiful. The love and wisdom of a person with hands like these has a lot to offer younger people, if they take the time to sit with them and listen.
They certainly do Sherry, and even if they’ve reached a point where they can’t speak too long, it is such an uplifting thing to do, not only for them, but also for yourself.
The idea of making your heart (intentions?) genuine as you care for others burrows in.
Authentic interaction is imperative Chtissa — and it is the loving thing to do.
So beautiful…You have given a touching voice to the beauty, love, and care of hands that reach out, hold, and share.
Thank you Susie… 🙂
I’m imagining the energy flowing through these two humans as they complete the circuit. Beautiful, Rob.
Thank you Lisa… 🙂
You are welcome, dear friend.
😉
A lovely poem. So much depth into the human spirit. The need to stop and to share a caring gesture.
Beautiful Rob.
